Greetings, Nick! My name is Arif, and I will assist you today.

It looks like a spam email. It is better to disregard the email and try to block the sender's email and domain "if it is not a Microsoft domain", as well as the IP address.

Once you have taken all the above steps to increase your security, make sure to reset your account password and set up a stronger one. If you are using a Gmail account, you can make your account more secure by using Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. You can download these from your Google Play or App Store and then set them up on your account.

Warm Regards,

Arif

I had this happen to me but instead it says

Security alert
We think that someone else might have accessed the Microsoft account ***my email*** When this happens, we require you to verify your identity with a security challenge and then change your password the next time you sign in.
If someone else has access to your account, they have your password and might be trying to access your personal information or send junk email.
If you haven't already recovered your account, we can help you do it now.

This has to be fake, but me being stupid clicked recover and it took me to Microsoft login.

Dear Nick,

Thank you so much for your reply!

Based on your description, it seems that the email you received was claiming to be from Microsoft and stated that your account is going to be closed. However, since you received this email in your Gmail account, it is important to note that Microsoft and Google are two different companies, and they do not send emails about each other’s accounts. Therefore, it is possible that this email is a phishing attempt to obtain your personal information.

Furthermore, it is important to keep in mind that Microsoft never sends emails to notify users about the closure of their email accounts. Additionally, an account can only be closed manually by the account owner. If the domain of the email is from Microsoft, it is recommended not to block it entirely, but instead, only block the sender. Alternatively, you can follow the below steps:

• Open the suspicious email.
• Click on the three dots located in the upper right corner of the email.
• Click on “Report phishing” or “Report spam”.

Warm Regards,

Arif

I got this exact same email sent to my gmail account.

The sender address was: Microsoft account team <******@accountprotection.microsoft.com>

Thank you Arif, for your reply.

Before I block the sender & domain, I want to make sure I don't inadvertently block a genuine MS email. What I received was from Microsoft account team <******@accountprotection.microsoft.com> ... fake ?
