How Sync Outlook Calendar App to Google Calendar?

Hi. I am an Office 365 home subscriber. I use the Outlook App's Calendar on my Android phone. Normally, any event that I enter into my phone's Outlook Calendar synchs automatically to Google Calendar on my PC laptop (running Windows 10), However, that syncing has stopped working. (However, syncing in the opposite direction is still working fine; that is, events that I add to Google calendar on my PC are still syncing to Outlook on my phone.) How can I get my Outlook Calendar on my Android phone to sync to my laptop's Google calendar. Thank you!

    Hello Rick,

I'm Ibhadighi and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

If your Outlook Calendar events are not syncing to your Google Calendar, but syncing works the other way around, there may be a disruption in the connection or settings that previously allowed the synchronization. Here's how you can address this issue:

    1. Check the Sync Settings on Your Android Phone:
      • Open the Outlook app on your Android phone.
      • Go to Settings by tapping the hamburger menu.
      • Scroll down to the calendar section.
      • Ensure that your calendars are set to sync.
    2. Check the Sync Settings on Your Google Calendar:
      • Open Google Calendar on your PC.
      • Click on the gear icon and go to 'Settings'.
      • Look for the 'Import & export' section.
      • Ensure the Outlook calendar is listed and set to sync. If it's not listed, you may need to add it again.
    3. Re-establish the Connection: Sometimes disconnecting and reconnecting your Outlook Calendar to your Google Calendar can resolve syncing issues.
      • In Google Calendar, remove the Outlook Calendar and then add it again.
      • You might need the Outlook Calendar iCal link to add to Google Calendar.
    4. Check Online Outlook Calendar:
      • Verify that the events are correctly showing up in your online Outlook calendar.
      • If not, the problem might be with the Outlook app on your Android phone not syncing with the online Outlook calendar.
    5. Clear Cache on the Outlook App:
      • Go to the settings on your Android phone.
      • Go to 'Apps' and find Outlook.
      • Go to 'Storage' and clear cache. Sometimes the cache can cause syncing issues.
    6. Update the Apps and OS:
      • Make sure both the Outlook app on your Android phone and the Google Calendar on your PC are updated to the latest version.
      • Also, update your Android OS to the latest version if an update is available.
    7. Check if There's an Ongoing Issue:
      • Sometimes service outages can cause syncing problems. Check the G Suite Status Dashboard and Office 365 Service Health to see if there are any known issues.
    8. Google Calendar Sync Settings:
      • On your PC, go to the Google Calendar sync settings and make sure the calendar from Outlook is selected for syncing.

Please ensure that you're performing these steps under a stable internet connection, and remember that changes might not sync immediately – it can sometimes take a few minutes for changes to appear.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards, Ibhadighi

    Hi Ibhadighi,

Thank you very much for your latest reply. I appreciate the effort you are making to help me! However, we haven't yet solved my problem. I suspect that maybe I haven't been clear enough with you about my situation, so I will try again.

To be clear: I don't use the Outlook calendar on my PC. I only use the Outlook calendar on my phone. When I go into Settings in the Outlook app on my phone, I only see one calendar. It appears under "local calendar accounts" as "My calendar LOCAL". If I scroll down in Settings, I also see a heading titled "Calendar"; the only Calendar shown there is "Default: My calendar." Events in that calendar (i.e., in My Calendar) do not appear in the Outlook calendar on my PC, which I never use. On my PC the only calendar I use is Google calendar (i.e., calendar.google.com). Until about two weeks ago, syncing worked perfectly between the calendar that's in the Outlook app on my phone and Google calendar on my PC. But now the syncing only works in one direction (from PC to phone). So that is my basic situation.

    Your first instruction above is:

    1. Get the iCal Link from Outlook Calendar: - Open Outlook on the web by going to Outlook.com.](https://outlook.live.com/%29. "outlook.live.com") - Click on the calendar icon to go to your calendar. - In the left pane, find the calendar you want to share, hover over it, click on the three dots for more options, and choose "Sharing and permissions." - Choose the option to share or publish your calendar. - Select the option to get a link to your calendar and copy the ICS link (this is your calendar's iCal link).

I wasn't sure whether you are instructing me to go to Outlook on the web (a) on my Android or (b) on my PC, so I have tried both.

On my phone I opened my Chrome browser and entered: https://outlook.live.com/).There I click on the Calendar icon and it opens a calendar that shows no events. That is, it is not showing any of the events that I see on my Android when I open the Outlook app and look at its calendar (which I assume is "My calendar LOCAL"). The left pane at https://outlook.live.com/ shows only three icons, labeled Email, Calendar, People. If I click on the Calendar icon, it shows only an empty calendar. In other words, I can't "find the calendar I want to share."

Since that didn't work. I tried going to https://outlook.live.com/). on my PC. There I clicked on the calendar icon. That opens a new pane that offers the option to Add calendar. Beneath that option is a drop-down menu labeled "My calendars". When I click on that drop-down menu, I see "Calendar," which is selected. However, the calendar itself is has no events. That is, as with my phone, on my PC I can't see any of the events that I see on my Android when I open the Outlook app and look at its calendar (which I assume is "My calendar LOCAL"). Beneath this empty Calendar on my PC there are three additional calendars: Birthday calendar, Calendar, richard's calendar. None of them is selected. However, when I select them one at a time the calendar is still empty (i.e., not even my own birthday is shown).

So your basic first instruction is to open https://outlook.live.com/). and then "hover over the calendar that I want to share'. But I can't do that, because on neither my phone nor PC can I see the calendar that I want to share (i.e., the calendar that I see when I open the Outlook app on phone and hit it's calendar icon at the bottom, which I assume is "My calendar LOCAL."

I hope that this helps you better understand my situation. Thank you again for trying to assist me!

    Richard

I apologize for any confusion Rick, and I understand you’re looking for clear steps to add your Outlook Calendar to your Google Calendar. Here is a simplified version of what you need to do:

    On your PC:

    1. Get the iCal Link from Outlook Calendar:
    • Open Outlook on the web by going to Outlook.com.](https://outlook.live.com/%29.)
      • Click on the calendar icon to go to your calendar.
      • In the left pane, find the calendar you want to share, hover over it, click on the three dots for more options, and choose "Sharing and permissions."
      • Choose the option to share or publish your calendar.
      • Select the option to get a link to your calendar and copy the ICS link (this is your calendar's iCal link).
    1. Add Your Outlook Calendar to Google Calendar:
    • Go to Google Calendar(https://calendar.google.com/).
      • On the left side, find "Other calendars" and click on the plus sign (+) next to it.
      • Select "From URL."
      • Paste the ICS link you copied from your Outlook calendar.
      • Click "Add calendar." Your Outlook calendar will be added to your Google Calendar.

    On your Android phone:

    • Ensure that the Outlook app is syncing calendars:
      • Open the Outlook app.
      • Go to Settings by tapping the hamburger menu (three lines) in the upper left corner.
      • Scroll down to the calendar section and ensure sync is on for your account's calendar (not "My calendar," unless your events are specifically saved there).

Regarding Automatic Sync: Automatic sync can sometimes stop working due to updates to the apps, changes in permissions, or other unforeseen issues. Even though it worked automatically before, these changes may require you to re-add the calendar as described above.

Please try these updated steps and I hope it helps,

    Best Regards, Ibhadighi

Hi Ibhadighi. Thank you for your reply. I'm afraid that I am having difficulty following your instructions. Here are my questions about your reply:

"1. Check the Sync Settings on Your Android Phone: - Open the Outlook app on your Android phone. - Go to Settings by tapping the hamburger menu. - Scroll down to the calendar section. - Ensure that your calendars are set to sync. "

When I open the Outlook app on my Android phone, I see that the default calendar is "My calendar." Sync is turned on for "My calendar.'

"2. Check the Sync Settings on Your Google Calendar: - Open Google Calendar on your PC. - Click on the gear icon and go to 'Settings'. - Look for the 'Import & export' section. - Ensure the Outlook calendar is listed and set to sync. If it's not listed, you may need to add it again."

I followed these instructions for my PC and found the "Import & export" section. Under "Import" I am offered the option: "Select file from your computer." Beneath that it says: "Add to calendar Richard Sclove." Beneath that there is a button that says: "Import," but it is faded out so that it can't be pressed.

So I don't see "Outlook calendar" listed. You write that "If it's not listed, you may need to add it again. " Can you please explain exactly how I can add the Outlook calendar? For instance, above the "Import & export" option there's a dropdown menu labeled "Add a calendar." The available choices include "Subscribe to calendar," "Create new calendar," Browse calendars of interest," and "From URL." Is this where I would add the "Outlook calendar." If yes, how do I do that?

I didn't get further in trying to follow your instructions because I got stuck at this stage. However, looking at Steps 3 - 8 in your reply, I can see that I will have further questions. But let's first see if I can get through Step 2. (For instance, in Step 3 your write "You might need the Outlook Calendar iCal link to add to Google Calendar." But I don't know where to find the "Outlook Calendar iCal link" and, once I have it. I don't know how to add it to Google Calendar.

BTW it's odd to me that I have to go through all these steps, because until recently my calendars synced automatically between my Android pone and PC without me having to go through any complicated set-up.

    Thanks again!

    Richard
