Contacts sync from Outlook 365 to Android Phone app, but not from Phone app to Outlook.

If I set up a new contact in my desktop Outlook365, the contact rapidly appears in my Android phone in the Outlook app and in the default (Samsung) Phone app and Contacts app.

If I set up a new contact in my phone Phone app or Contacts app, the contact does not sync back to my phones Outlook app nor to my desktop Outlook365.

I have searched the FAQs and this Community forum and carried out all the sync checks I have found but I have no solution. Can you help please?

I have a workround. In my phone I add the contact to Outlook so I can see that the contact details can then show up in Outlook on the phone and and the phones contact list. Also because the contact was put in Outlook on the phone it show up in my pc.

However, if I put the contact in the phones contact list it will not transfer to Outlook.

This web comments seems to cover the issue, but does not explain

If I add or edit a new contact to Outlook, will it sync with my Contacts app on my device? - Microsoft Support

If I add or edit a new contact to Outlook, will it sync with my Contacts app on my device? Outlook for Android Outlook for iOS Yes, when Save Contactsis enabled for iOS, or Sync Contacts is enabled for Android (**Settings >**select your desired Account > Save Contact), newly added contacts and edits made to your contacts in Outlook for iOS and Android will be saved to the Contacts app on your device.

But, edits made directly in your device's Contacts app will not be saved to Outlook for iOS and Android.

So MS seem to have barred the reverse: that is contacts made in the phone contacts list cannot be transferred to Outlook.

    Segunfunmi,

    Thank you for your reply.

I have tried all your suggestions.

    Sync Contacts slider is ON

    Auto-sync is ON

I have RESET the account in the Outlook app

I have REMOVED and REINSTALLED the account in the Outlook app.

Still a Contact created in the phone Contacts app will not sync to the Outlook app

    Regards

    John

    Hello Mrjcjones,

I’m Segunfunmi, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. Thanks for posting the query here in this forum.

You have already checked the sync settings and performed all the sync checks. One possible solution could be to enable the Sync Contacts feature in the Outlook app on your Android phone. To do this, go to Settings in the Outlook app, then under Accounts, tap the account you would like to sync with and switch the Sync Contacts slider to ON.

If the toggle option for Sync Contacts is disabled and a message is displayed with the text “Contacts sync isn’t turned on in system settings”, this may be due to the Auto-sync data option being disabled in system settings. To fix this issue, enable Auto-sync data in the Accounts menu in the Android system settings. This option is usually found in a vertical ellipsis or triple bar. The Accounts menu can be in different locations, depending on the device's make and version of Android. In most newer models, Accounts can be searched for in Settings.

If you have already tried these steps and are still experiencing issues, you may want to try resetting your account or deleting and re-adding your email account in the Outlook app.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Kind regards, Segunfunmi.
