Auto-forwarding of all messages keeps disabling itself

In settings, I enable the mail forwarding and save that setting and it seems to work. But if I sign out then sign back in, the saved setting is gone, and the auto-mail forwarding no longer works unless I re-enable and save it all over again - this keeps repeating itself. Why won't this setting stay? Anyone else have this problem? Is there a solution?

There are various factors that could cause the auto-forwarding setting to turn itself off in Outlook.com. Some of the possible reasons are:

    • Outlook.com may periodically prompt you to confirm that you want to keep forwarding your emails, and if you don't respond, it may disable the setting.
    • Your account may have been compromised by a hacker who changed your settings without your knowledge. You can check your recent activity and security settings to see if there are any suspicious signs.
    • You may have enabled the auto-forwarding setting in another device or application that syncs with Outlook.com, and it may have overridden your web settings. You can check if you have any other apps or devices that access your account and disable the auto-forwarding setting there.
    • You may have encountered a bug or a glitch in Outlook.com that caused the setting to turn off unexpectedly. You can try to clear your browser cache, update your browser, or use a different browser to see if that fixes the issue.

I Haven't found a way to stop that as I too am getting that along with my Rules automatically being switched off.

What i did was sign into Power Automate and create a simple flow which is doing the forwarding for me. Saves trying to argue with support staff, trying things that you've already tried and obviously wouldn't work and answering silly questions.

Its the only thng that seems to work reliably :)

    Hi Inew,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for the inconveniences,

To fix this problem, you can try the following solutions depending on your email account type and Outlook version:

    • If you are using an Outlook.com account (such as outlook.com, live.com, hotmail.com, etc.), you can enable auto-forwarding by going to Settings (gear icon) > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Forwarding. There you can enter the email address that you want to forward your emails to and select the option to keep a copy of forwarded messages in your inbox. Click Save to apply the changes. However, sometimes this setting might turn off by itself due to various factors. To prevent this, you can also create an inbox rule that will forward your emails as a workaround. You can go to Settings > View all Outlook settings > Mail > Rules and create a rule like this: Apply to all messages > Forward to [your email address] > Stop processing more rules. This will forward all your emails to your desired address and ignore any other rules that might interfere with it.
    • If you are using an Office 365 account (such as work or school account), you can enable auto-forwarding by going to File > Info > Manage Rules & Alerts. There you can click on New Rule and create a rule like this: Apply rule on messages I receive > Next > Next > Yes > Forward it to people or public group > select the email address that you want to forward your emails to > Next > Next > Finish. However, sometimes this rule might not work or turn off by itself due to various factors. To prevent this, you can also check the following things:
      • Make sure your Outlook is updated to the latest version for Office 365. You can do this by going to File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now.
      • Make sure your email account allows auto-forwarding and does not have any policy or limit that blocks it. You can check this by contacting your email administrator or IT support.

    I hope this helps!

    Regards, Sola
