yes your phone and even Eco like devices listen to conversations. they are AI not human and do not record. I think that is this case here. It is a PAID $$$$$ for tag on my email that Microsoft offer's to advertisers. If you read ALL of your use agreement you would find you gave permission to do that. Reading those agreements are like pork fat in legislation. ALSO! in some states you cant even use a recording device to record a conversation between you and someone else. Like when a cop pulls you over. So if you have a short memory you must know how to write fast. BUT! when they say in a phone conversation "this is a recorded line" that means you give consent if you keep talking. I will be interesting if this gets posted because I didn't read this user agreement.

Everyone eavesdrops nowadays. My wife talks about recipe with her mother. Shortly after... Google search recommends some recipe she talks about with her mother on the instant message app. Nothing is coincidence.

So your saying that being they got my phone number that my Microsoft account has been compromised because of poor security!

No, I think it is a coincidence. SMS spam is not uncommon. Like a stopped clock, the spammers sometimes get their timing right and text you right after you do something common - like place an amazon order, or are expecting a FedEx order, etc, hoping to trick you into replying.

But like Ron, have had weird experiences with browser ads.

I don't read terms and conditions because reading them gives me a headache. I just assume the worst. I don't have many IoT devices. The only 'listening' devices I have is smartphones and yes, I assume they listen to everything I say or do when I use the phone. I got a smart TV too but I don't have it connected to the internet so I guess it becomes dumb TV in my room. It would be fair to say the majority of email providers reads our emails. If you want total privacy, host your own mail server.

It's a coincidence unless one of your account's was hacked and the messages are being forwarded to the hacker.

Let us know how it goes, we're here to help you further if needed.
