Rules -stop processing more rules

Hi,

I've defined multiple rules to keep also my junk mail clean.

But a lot of the defined rules do not work, because standard, the 'stop processing more rules' are flagged. Unflag and save does not help...

Anyone some tips?

Thank you

Yves

    Hi YvesUB,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for the inconveniences,

The 'stop processing more rules' option is a common source of confusion for many Outlook users. This option tells Outlook to ignore any other rules that might apply to a message after the current rule is applied. This can be useful if you want to avoid conflicts or duplications between your rules, but it can also prevent some of your rules from working at all. For example, if you have a rule to move all messages from a certain sender to a folder, and another rule to flag all messages with a certain subject, and you enable the 'stop processing more rules' option for the first rule, then the second rule will never be applied to any messages from that sender, even if they have the matching subject.

To fix this problem, you need to review your rules and decide which ones need the 'stop processing more rules' option and which ones don't. You also need to consider the order of your rules, as Outlook applies them from top to bottom. You can use the arrows on the right side of the Rules window to change the order of your rules. Generally, you should put the most specific rules at the top, and the more general rules at the bottom. You should also disable the 'stop processing more rules' option for any rules that you want to work together, and enable it only for the rules that you want to be exclusive.

Here are the steps you can follow to edit your rules and change the 'stop processing more rules' option:

    • Open Outlook and go to File -> Manage Rules & Alerts.
    • Select the rule that you want to edit and click on Change Rule -> Edit Rule Settings.
    • In the Rule Wizard, go to the last step and look for the option 'stop processing more rules'. Check or uncheck the box as needed.
    • Click on Finish and then on Apply to save your changes.
    • Repeat these steps for any other rules that you want to edit.

    I hope this helps!

    Regards, Sola
