"New Outlook" Sync Contacts with Gmail

Is it possible to sync contacts between the "New Outlook" and the Gmail contacts? My calendar syncs perfectly between the two but if I add a new contact in Outlook it won't sync to my Gmail contacts and if I add a contact from my Gmail it won't sync to Outlook.

Am I missing a setting somewhere or is this not possible yet? Any way to make this work?

I did add my Gmail account to the new Outlook successfully and that portion has been working flawlessly. It's even keeping my calendars in sync with Gmail automatically which the older version of Outlook did not.

I was also able to import my Gmail contacts into Outlook but if I add a new contact in Gmail or in Outlook they will not sync with each other, I have to manually add the contact in each location.

Is this not possible in the new version of Outlook? Is there a utility that would keep this up to date for me?

Thank you,

Zach

This is classic MS trickery. The new outlook supports gmail, but it doesn't! Just like you, mine works for calendar, but not contacts. This is by design because MS wants your contacts to reside on their servers. They can do lot mining this information and monetize it. Instead, they 'download' google contacts onto the outlook servers and now we have to separate lists of contacts to maintain.

MS does that sneakily and they do not announce their intentions.

I was happy to try the new OL, but MS software design and lack of transparency is not OK with me. I ended up using em client. One of the best Windows email clients and it works flawlessly with Google.

    Good luck

    Same thing here.

I use a gmail account merely bc of the integration with the many google login things.

Gmail mail interface is horrible. I dislike the labels system. Top it up with the many different interfaces (app, desktop web, android web), they all look completely different.

I much prefer the folder look of microsoft but keeping google contacts synced with outlook is a nightmare.

Lots of apps offer this syncing if you are ready to pay abusive prices for it.

Neither google nor microsoft seem to want and implement a seamless way to have contacts synced without a third party.

    Hello Zach,

I’m Segunfunmi, an Independent Advisor and Microsoft user like you. Thanks for posting the query here in this forum.

Yes, it is possible to sync contacts between the “New Outlook” and Gmail contacts. You can use the duplicate contacts in both Google Gmail and Outlook without adding them manually to both locations. However, Outlook and Gmail have separate address books and don’t sync automatically, which means that if you change your contacts in one or the other, you have one address book that remains unchanged. To keep your address books synced with free, open-source software, you can use a program like Contacts Sync or GO Contacts Sync Mod. These programs can help you keep your Gmail and Outlook contacts in check. If you change one, you can use these programs to update the other quickly, conveniently, and almost effortlessly.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Kind regards, Segunfunmi.

It should be syncing to Google, not Exchange. Just like other email clients do.

The 'rage' is fairly aimed towards Microsoft. If other mail clients can sync with Gmail directly, and they do, then Outlook can.

Even the Windows 10 built in People client syncs. Which of course MS are killing to push 'new' Outlook (merely a wrapper for the outlook.com website).

This is all on Microsoft. They've had years to sort this out properly for *real* Outlook and the new fake one. They still refuse to.

    I have definitively given up.

    Bad user experience!

When I use a service, I expect it to simplify my life, not constantly subject me to the blackmail of "we'll simplify your life if you use our ecosystem, otherwise we'll complicate it to convince you to come on board." Realize, dear marketing experts, that this will only achieve the opposite result.

A small software update would be enough to make eM Client obsolete, yet it is still the best email client. It synchronizes every type of account, including tasks, contacts, calendars, signatures... everything! And it's free.

After trying it, I realized it was so well-made that I even paid for the pro version, even though I don't need it, just out of gratitude for solving my problem.

Money that could have gone to Microsoft one day... but eM Client deserves it.

I decided to share this user experience to leave a small breadcrumb for anyone who wants to pick it up.
