My emails have randomly disappeared from my inbox. I have checked my deleted items and all folders, checked filters, done EVERYTHING to find them and still no luck. Missing on desktop, browser and phone.

Can someone please help me recover these emails? I have over 15 years worth of mail in my inbox.

    Hello Jackframp,

Is your email hosted by Microsoft? i.e. (@outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, @msn.com). If yes, please let me know so that I can guide you on how to use Microsoft's Email Recovery add-in.

If it is not a Microsoft hosted email, head over to your hosts webmail platform and check if you are missing those emails there as well.

Hello Jackframp! I am Gunasekar and I will be happy to help you with your question.

Losing important emails can be quite frustrating. But you can take a few attempts to recover lost emails.

    a. Did you check your Microsoft storage space? If your storage becomes full, your e-mails or files from OneDrive will be deleted.

    • Make sure you have free space to receive emails.

    a. Go to https://onedrive.live.com/?v=managestorage (OneDrive storage) and https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/options/general/storage (Outlook Storage) b. Sign in with your Microsoft account.

    b. Have you checked out Outlook Web Online?

    1. Sign in to Outlook Web (www.outlook.com) in a browser.
    2. In the left pane, select the deleted items folder.
    3. At the top of the message lists, select deleted items from this folder.
    4. Select the items you want to recover and click the Restore button.

Items you choose to recover will be returned to their original folders.

    a. I will share some Microsoft self-help articles to recover deleted data from your Outlook account.

    https://support.microsoft.com/help/c70b4a9a-caa5-4e8c-a88a-3372215af25e

    b. Recover deleted email messages in Outlook.com

    https://support.microsoft.com/help/cf06ab1b-ae0b-418c-a4d9-4e895f83ed50

    c. If you're still having problems, it's recommended that you talk to Outlook Support -

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2090945

Select the Outlook.com Help icon in the menu bar and enter your question. If self-help doesn't solve your problem, scroll down to Still need help? and select Yes.

I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will be happy to assist you further.

    Best regards,

    Gunasekar N

    Hi Ayomipo,

Yes it's a Hotmail account. Thank you for your help that would be great. I have no idea how this happened and all solutions I read online are very basic and don't solve the issue.

    Alright Jackframp,

    • Head over to https://outlook.live.com/ and sign in with the affected email address
    • Open any email and click on the three horizontal dots at the top right corner (see image below) and select Get Add-ins

    • A new window will pop up, type Email Recovery in the search box at the top right of that window and choose the add-in that comes up (See image below)

    • Click on Add and wait for it to notify you that it has been added
    • Once it is added, go back to the email that was opened and once again, click on the three horizontal dots at the top right corner, this time, select Email Recovery
    • The Email recovery window will open towards the right side

    • Select Recoverable Items and click on Start Recovery
    • Once that is done go back and choose Purges and click on Start Recovery again
    • Two folders will be created with the name Email Recovery...
    • Check the two folders to see if you can find the emails that are missing

If you do not find them, please follow these steps to reach Outlook in-app support team: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-to-get-support-for-outlook-com-f5482a98-616c-4d44-b7c5-8aaaadf5c11a
