Use my own domain with Microsoft 365 Family...

Hi,

I have my own domain that I own. Currently, the domain is set up on the Fasthosts domain site to forward all emails to that domain to my M365 family subscription.

However with this way I cannot send email under that domain - sent mails always show up as my outlook.com address.

I saw some threads that indicates that I can somehow "import" my domain into Outlook and then I can send and receive mail directly (and also my family could do that same).

However it said that I have to transfer my domain to Godaddy for this to work?

Can someone confirm whether this is still the case as the threads I saw were a year or two old?

The information in that post is wrong.

If you have your own domain and an Microsoft 365 personal or family subscription, you can add the domain in Outlook.com's Settings (gear icon) > View all Outlook settings > Premium

    https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/options/premium/personalemail

But you need to do it ASAP - before the end of Nov.

My instructions above are correct for family and personal accounts.

The other instructions are for business accounts - if you have an office 365 personal or family account yuou can have one personalized address per license / share.

Hello! My name is Mostafa, and I will try my best to assist you with this so that you find a satisfactory solution.

Yes, you can use your own domain with Microsoft 365 Family. You can add your domain to Microsoft 365. In the wizard, you’ll confirm that you own the domain and then automatically set up your domain’s records, so email comes to Microsoft 365 and other Microsoft 365 services, like Teams, work with your domain.

You can follow these steps to add your domain to Microsoft 365:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft admin center at https://admin.microsoft.com.
    2. Go to the Settings > Domains page.
    3. On the Domains page, select a domain.
    4. Under DNS records, select Custom Records; then select Add record.

5 Select the type of DNS record you want to add and type the information for the new record.

    1. Select Save.

    Please review the below article.

If the above steps do not help, reach out to me, and I will be happy to help and try my best to resolve your issue. Thank you.

    Best,

    Mostafa

    Hello Diane,

This is a superb post, thank you. Also had a look at your website.

Here's my question - as a former MSFT employee I set my family email up with a custom (GoDaddy) domain and 365 Business Essentials. And I got a Microsoft 365 Family plan.

Truth be told I don't really use anything but the custom domain. So... what chronological steps would you recommend in terms of removing the domain from the Business Essentials and then 'connecting it' through the 365 Family plan?

By the way, is there an extra charge for this Microsoft 365 Godaddy 'service' (on top of the normal domain registration)?

Just found out I need to expedite this step .... thanks also for that.

    Philippe

    Hi

I have tried to follow these steps but I am unable to sign in to the admin centre with a hotmail address. This is confusing because my Microsoft 365 Family account is set up using this hotmail/outlook address. The error message I get is "You can't sign in here with a personal account. Use your work or school account instead".

Like the original post, I won my own domain and I would like to add it to my domain to M365.

    Please help :)
