Email re enter password issues

I have a “Enter the password for the Outlook account” appearing on my mailbox and have the option to either cancel or go to Edit Settings.

When I select Edit Settings under my hotmail account p, I receive a message that states “There was a problem accessing your account. Please re-enter the password” every time I try to Re-enter Password my iPad screen tries to take me to my hotmail then instantly returns to the same message, preventing me from re-entering my password. Why is this happening?
