When I add my personal outlook email account on my Android phone by adding it as Outlook, Hotmail and Live, it's added as IMAP rather than Exchange Active Sync which means I can't edit Outlook Calendar entries or create new entries in try Androids Calendar app.

I still can't add an account to Android on Exchange base.
What i did discover after hours of testing is that you can select to sync contacts and calendar in Outlook.
You first need the Outlook app on Android, setup your account's there.

In Outlook go to settings -> select your account -> check contact en calendar sync.

What this does is it copies the calendar and contacts so it becomes an account in the stock Android environment.

When you go tot Gmail app and want to add an account from within the app, you can only select Gmail and no other providers.
It looks like Android disables the posibility to add foreign accounts.
Outlook has this workaround so you can still use the Live account in the stock Android apps.
It's only very dificult to find .. anway it works !
And it works for personel as wel as coporate boxes in Outlook.

These settings don't work for me anymore.
    Neither do the following servers

    eas.outlook.com

    outlook.office365.com

    m.outlook.com

    m.hotmail.com

I am using my app password (to avoid 2 factor verification) and primary email everywhere.

Modern authentication just leads to "Can't reach server"

After much googling and trial and error, this worked:

    Setting Type Setting Value
    Exchange Server address: outlook.office365.com
    Exchange port: 443
Exchange username: Your full Outlook.com email address
    Exchange password: Your Outlook.com password
    Exchange TLS/SSL encryption required: Yes

Question. Why isn't this information available anywhere in Microsoft support?

Yeah, I had found that article, but it's not at all clear which server settings you need to use when adding your personal outlook.com account to an Android device so that Exchange Active Sync works, otherwise the account just gets added as IMAP and calendar two-way sync does not work. The article is not clear enough, whereas the external resource I found is very clear. The article needs improving. It is also missing the Port number, though that may not be needed, it should probably be included for completeness.

Note: None of this would be necessary if the Outlook for Android app actually worked better. It's just about OK for your Microsoft account, but handles other email accounts appallingly, with laggy notifications and poor synchronisation. I think this is because it doesn't pick up the accounts already registered with the phone; it's all done through your servers. Poor implementation.
