New mail badge missing from "NEW" Outlook for Windows taskbar icon

(To help rule out inexperience...Windows user and developer since version 3.0 and a past Microsoft business partner .)

Brand new Surface Pro 9, no 3rd party apps installed yet. The taskbar is correctly configured to display badges, and they work fine on other apps. The new Outlook for Windows icon that is pinned to the taskbar does not display a badge when new emails arrive. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks, but it didn't work for me. Taking it off my Taskbar and using another email app fixed it 🙂. I'll try again in a few months. I sent feedback to Microsoft, and hopefully, they get enough other complaints to fix it.

    Diane,

I have the same taskbar icon, but it does not have the small envelope at the top right, which might be a new indicator for new email instead of a badge with a number. The basic icon is all I have, whether I have new email waiting or not. I'd be happy with just that smaller envelope indicating there is new mail waiting...but it's not displayed on my machine.

In my experience, it only shows if Outlook is minimized or not in focus - if it is open on the screen and in focus, no envelope.

Unfortunately, not the case with this issue. My Outlook was minimized for several hours in which I received numerous, new mails. No badge; no joy.

I should mention that I am not running the "new Outlook" option. I'm running the latest from the standard M365 update channel - Version 2311 (Build 17029.20108). I'm pretty sure the badge stopped working when this update was applied.

Thanks, Diane. Notifications are enabled in both places and I know the badge shouldn't appear if the app is in focus; however, it's not. There is a toggle to turn on/off badges on apps pinned to the taskbar in Windows 11, and it has been there since the beginning. It's located in the Taskbar Settings pane toward the bottom, and I have it turned on. For what it's worth, I just asked 30 other Windows users in my organization if this works for them, and it does not. Therefore, it clearly seems like a Microsoft issue.

Obviously, the first thing I checked. Ultimately I resolved the problem by changing to Apple Mail in macOS.
