How can I recover my hotmail account?

Hey, I've had my Hotmail account for over 20 years.

At some point my Hotmail account because linked with my brothers (no idea how this happened). So when I would change my password, it would change his and vise versa.

So he went into his Outlook account and removed my email account from his Outlook profile.

Now when I try to sign into my Hotmail it says "That Microsoft account doesn't exist". So I tried to open a "new" Hotmail account with the same email address and it says it's already taken.

Is there anyway for me to recover this account? I've had it forever and everything is tied to this account.

Thanks for any help.

Steve H, I understand how frustrating this can be but there is nothing more you can do as the alias cannot be recovered.

If he deleted the alias, it cannot be recovered. I pulled this information from Microsoft article: https://support.microsoft.com/office/459b1989-356d-40fa-a689-8f285b13f1f2

"If you remove an alias that's an email address from a Microsoft domain (like @hotmail.com, @live.com, @outlook.com, or @msn.com), you're permanently deleting the alias and it can't be associated with any Microsoft account again."

    Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.

I log into my account everyday so that is not the issue.

My account was an alias on my brothers email account somehow, all he did was remove my account as his alias and it somehow deleted my account.

    How can I fix this?

    Hello Steve H,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Community. My name is Eunice and I am happy to assist you today.

I am sorry you are experiencing this problem. Microsoft account activity policy states that if you have not logged into your account for more than two years and it has been closed due to inactivity.

    Reference: https://support.microsoft.com/office/7c0a9fa7-0982-b7c6-fd72-df852b63699f

When you sign into www.office.com with your Microsoft account and you receive an error message that states your Microsoft account does not exist. This means that your Microsoft account may have been deleted and you cannot recover or reuse the email address as Microsoft does not recycle emails addresses.

Let me know if you need more help.
