Outlook for IOS - Getting IMAP addresses to show up

I recently installed Outlook for IOS on my iPad. My set up is using my IMAP account that I use in Outlook 2016 on my Windows PC. I have searched everywhere on Google to see how to get my address book that is on my Windows PC to show up in Outlook for IOS. I would of thought that it would do it automatically but alas it isn’t. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Shalom,

After going through your revised instructions, this doesn’t work either. I decided to delete my email account in my iPad and recreate it. When I did this I went back into Outlook for iOS and my emails were still there (weird!). So I deleted my account in Outlook iOS.

Now I am starting from scratch. So I create my account in Outlook iOS and I then go to the iPad ACCOUNT SETTINGS and don’t see my email account at all that I just created in Outlook iOS. I then delete my account in Outlook iOS. I create my email account in my iPad ACCOUNT SETTINGS. I notice there is nothing about syncing contacts in all of the settings of my account. I open up Outlook iOS, thinking my email would be in there and it wants me to set up my email account from scratch. I have now come to the conclusion that Outlook iOS is in now way integrated with my iPad’s mail system. It is separate.

So after that I go into the settings of Outlook iOS to see if there is a sync contacts settings as you have been describing. When I go into contacts it says my setting is default and when I go to see what my options are to change default to something else it’s blank and doesn’t allow me to set it to anything (like a syncing setting). Again that brings me back to my original question is I thought that this being an IMAP email account I would be able to see my address book in Outlook iOS.

. Here's a revised version to better align with the actual menu structure:

    1. Ensure IMAP Setup:
    • Open the Outlook app on your iPad.
    • Tap on the menu icon (three lines in the top-left corner).
    • Go to "Settings" > "Add Email Account."
    • Select your email provider and follow the prompts to enter your email and password.
    1. Enable Contacts Sync:
    • After setting up your email account, go to the iPad "Settings" app (the main device settings, not the Outlook app settings).
    • Scroll down and find "Mail" (or just "Contacts" or "Passwords & Accounts" depending on your iOS version).
    • Tap on "Accounts" (or the specific email account if listed directly).
    • Find and tap on your Outlook email account.
    • Ensure that the "Contacts" toggle is turned on.

    I hope these adjustments help.

    Best Regards, Shalom

    Hi Shalom,

    Your first part of instructions:

    • Ensure IMAP Setup: Make sure that your IMAP email account is set up correctly on Outlook for iOS. Go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account, and select your email provider. Follow the prompts to enter your email and password.

You say to go to Settings (I am assuming you mean Settings on my iPad), I can go to Settings and there is no Accounts. But in Mail, there is Accounts (Settings > Mail > Accounts). Is this what you meant?

If so the 2nd part of your instructions:

    • Enable Contacts Sync: Once your email account is set up, go to Settings > Accounts. Tap on your email account, and make sure the "Contacts" toggle is turned on. This ensures that your contacts are synced with the Outlook app.

Again there is no Settings > Accounts, but there is Settings > Mail > Accounts. I can go into the email account that was set up properly and there is no "Contacts" toggle listed. So at this point I really can't go any further.

Can you check your instructions and advise if they aren't correct or I am doing something wrong.

    Thanks so much!

    Mark

    Hello Matoor,

I'm Shalom and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you with this process:

    • Ensure IMAP Setup: Make sure that your IMAP email account is set up correctly on Outlook for iOS. Go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account, and select your email provider. Follow the prompts to enter your email and password.
    • Enable Contacts Sync: Once your email account is set up, go to Settings > Accounts. Tap on your email account, and make sure the "Contacts" toggle is turned on. This ensures that your contacts are synced with the Outlook app.
    • Check Contact Source: Open the Outlook app on your iPad. Tap on the menu icon (three lines in the top-left corner) and go to "Settings" > "Tap to select the account" > "Sync Contacts." Ensure that the correct email account is selected.
    • Update Outlook: Make sure that your Outlook app is updated to the latest version. Sometimes, syncing issues are resolved with app updates that address compatibility or bug fixes.
    • Wait for Sync: After enabling contact sync, give it some time. Contacts may not appear instantly, especially if you have a large contact list. Allow some time for the sync process to complete.
    • Manually Add Account: If the automatic sync doesn't work, you can try adding the account manually. In the Outlook app, go to Settings > Add Account > Email Account. Enter your email and password, and make sure to enable contacts sync during the setup.
    • Check IMAP Settings: Verify that your IMAP account settings on your Windows PC and iPad are identical. This includes server settings, port numbers, and security settings.
    • Restart Outlook: Sometimes, simply restarting the Outlook app can trigger a manual sync. Close the app, reopen it, and check if your contacts appear.

    Best Regards, Shalom
