Why the New Outlook sucks! (the new 2023/24 mail app forced on us)

More a statement than a question, in hopes for Outlook / Microsoft developers taking some hints.

Why New Outlook sucks.

(a list of observations, after trying to adjust to it – and compared to Windows Mail app)

  • Over-constructed, bloated – cramped with useless items and features, e.g., “Notes”, “Conversation History”, “Shared with Me”, “Groups” … just to name the folder list. I want an app to open my emails … not a complete Nanny and life coach. Typical result of an ambitious, young tech nerd who needs to justify his existence, forgetting what good, logical and accommodating design is that serves the purpose and humans. Have a look at the whole concept of Bauhaus! Simplicity!!!
  • often slower than Mail
  • if you have several email accounts:

Each one opens its own drop-down list, running out of real estate immediately … over crowded. As in Mail – there should be only ONE folder list, for all accounts combined.

  • clicking on one account, one has to chose inbox each time, then close the endless list of useless folders to make room for another account to open its list … and chose inbox again …. ridiculous! Mail app opens inbox automatically, first … just by clicking on an account, regardless which account.
  • Forced advertisements … every time one opens Outlook.

Outlook is an app as part of the operating system, purchased with it. It is offensive and crooked to attach advertisements with it. What’s next … ads in Photos? In Explorer? Ads in Settings? … criminal!

  • Favorites … totally unnecessary … doubled up

Mail, on the other hand:

  • simple and logical, NOT over constructed
  • opens emails simpler, with better over view, less crowded, less useless options and ridiculous folders. As mentioned above … you see e.g., 5 email accounts, but only one folder list, permanently, which changes if you chose different folders in one account than in another. Main thing: only ONE folder list!
  • No advertisements!!
  • super fast
  • logical and easy navigating. Same as e.g., millions of tiny buttons or menu steps in a 80’s car stereo … as compared to a simple turn-knob. Human!!

There is much more … in absurd New Outlook nonsense and with very good Mail features that work. I’m sure I will discover more nonsense in Outlook the more I go through it.

In the end … why not keep what works fantastic … and has NO ads forced on us. I'll use mail app as long as possible or pick one from the app store ... deleting everything that carries the name "Outlook"

    I so agree.

What happened to being able to create search folders such as new email, so I have all the unopened mail in one place to review?

As far as organizing my email, I really do NOT like the NEW outlook.

Keep the current Outlook and let users tweak it to their likings. . . . .

Another real problem I am having, after trying the NEW outlook and toggling back to the original, it takes FOREVER to download my email from comcast. This really frustrates me to the point of quitting MS altogether.

More nonsense to discover - delete everything called "Outlook"

You don't need Outlook to manage emails perfectly and with ease! (not "old" Outlook nor "New" Outlook.

I agree. I want a simple steak knife and outlook is now a 20-pound army Swiss knife.

    Hi Paul,

    not sure what you mean.

Either you are ironic or misunderstood.

I never said "One Folder" ... what folders anyways?

I have 5 email accounts listed in Mail app ... (NOT Outlook mail view!! - yes, some don't even know what the Mail app is ...

the Mail app has nothing to do with Outlook ... never installed or used Outlook!) ...

and only the one I'm looking at reveals it's various folders, as in Sent / Deleted / Junk, etc., always with Inbox first ... while in New Outlook

the space fills up with each account's own folder list and one has to click again to open inbox...ridiculous!

    Simply a real estate issue.

Much easier to overview and better organized in Mail app.

    You probably misunderstood.

And what has your phone to do with an email app?

I can't find the signature button anymore.

If you want to go to the calendar, next to the 'TODAY' are two boxes with two yellow dots of the same size. the first dot goes back to the second dot. Moves forward. Arrows were too hard to find when they coded it.

Is there a website that converts Microsoft Hieroglyphics to English?

Finding all the stupid nuances in the new Outlook takes me hours. And they keep asking to "Try the new Outlook." I tried it, and you cannot use it because of your license.
