Storing Emails directly to Documents area in PC from new Outlook

I have a folder structure in my PC documents area organised by subjects and drag my emails into each area for history on each subject instead of using a .PST file. I tried to drag a email into my folders directly from the new Outlook for testing and my emails do not come across as expected. It looks like the new outlook will not allow this function for storing emails with my other documents in each folder.

I can do it with my current Office 10 Outlook version and open the email from where I have placed them, is this function going to be in the new Outlook. It makes sense to group all my documents in one spot together on each subject and open them from where they are stored. That way there is no need for a .PST file if you like to do this.

I have a workaround. Go to the Microsoft Store, and download the free EML Opener. When you save your file you can open that file with EML Opener to view it. Totally stupid that MS doesn't have a way to view saved files in New Outlook yet. Why release it at all if it's not usable?

The new Outlook can't access the .msg files you have been saving.

I have years of classic Outlook messages from friends, work, clubs, receipts, and hobbies. The different types of saved emails are in an organized file system of folders and sub-folders. I have thousands of emails in this file system. I see the advantages of the new email system. However, I don't want to maintain two email systems and two file systems containing saved emails.

Microsoft, wants everyone to move to the new Outlook. But, they did not offer a way to convert saved emails.

Other email products offer conversion of saved Outlook file systems to their email system.

    Why can't Microsoft?

Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.

You can save messages to the file system with the new Outlook. Open the message (Reading Pane or new window) and click the ellipsis (three dots) at the top right of the message. The menu that opens will have a Save option. The message will be saved with the file type of .eml. See https://www.slipstick.com/new-outlook/save-messages-outlook/. Alternatively, you can print the message to a PDF and save it that way. The new Outlook can't access the .msg files you have been saving. You need classic Outlook for Windows for that.

My version of the new Outlook will not allow the download of the *.eml file. It only allows moving it to a folder within the new Outlook

I cannot save an email to a folder in Word Documents in the New Outlook. Also, I cannot open past Windows Mail emails that are saved in Documents in the New Outlook. Very frustrating.
