HOW TO Synchronising outlook contacts/calendar with Samsung contact/calendar apps on Galaxy phones???

On galaxy S24, there is a Samsung-made Android-based contact/calendar app. It should, in theory at least, be able to sync with accounts of my choice, EXCEPT FOR OUTLOOK apparently!

So here is the cliché answer that DOES NOT WORK with me:

on the phone go to: Settings> Account and backup> Manage accounts> Add account

then choose "outlook". Next screen is "Enter your email" and the other option is "add google account" the the following cases may take place;

  1. if I'm adding outlook account for the first time, then it takes me to the sign in page.
  2. if the account is already added to "outlook app" and I wanted to choose it, it says "This email address is already connected with Outlook. Do you want to connect it again with another service". Then I'm redirected to a page to choose a bunch of services from the first two of which are "Office 365" and "outlook" which the account already exists on.

In the both of the aforementioned cases, the best that can happen is that the outlook account is added to outlook-app ONLY. I can access contacts of course through OUTLOOK APP ONLY.

It does NOT sync with Samsung-made Android-based contact/calendar app. the option to sync contacts with "outlook" does not have a blue dot next to it even if I choose it 1000 times.

WHAT am I missing here???

    SOLVED!

Apparently, for security reasons, it's not enough to allow outlook to sync using the phone settings.

I had to go to **Outlook > Settings > Press your Outlook account > Sync contacts/calendars >**and activate the syncing INSIDE outlook app, which is off by default for security reasons too.

    Update 5/4/2024

As Microsoft updates the Outlook app for android, the location of the settings is shifting. Now, it's placed in a better more visible location, apparently they are listening to my feedback 😅

    1. Step One: Enable syncing inside android Outlook app For Calendar Outlook app > Home button at the top > Settings sprocket ⚙ > Calendar > Sync Calendars > activate the accounts that you like their calendars to be synced For Contacts Outlook app > Home button at the top > Settings sprocket ⚙ > Contacts > Sync Contacts > activate the accounts that you like their contacts to be synced
    2. Step Two: Check that the settings of your device allow syncing with your outlook accounts, I am using Samsung calendar and contacts but i think similar thing apply to google calendar. A. Through device system settings settings: Settings > Accounts and backup > Manage accounts > choose account > Sync account > check contacts and calendar or whatever you need is activated B. Through specified app settings Samsung Calendar > Hamburger button > Click on account to extend > make sure the circle is ticked Samsung Contacts > Hamburger button > Manage contacts > Sync contacts > activate the desired accounts

If you started the other way around, i.e. inside Samsung apps, you need to go to

Samsung Contacts > Hamburger button > Manage contacts > Sync contacts > Add account >outlook > Continue ...

this will transfer you to outlook app. however if the account is already added through outlook app and you still cannot find it in Samsung apps DO NOT TRY TO USE ADD ACCOUNT, it doesn't work and gives error messages, but rather make sure you do the aforementioned Step One.

I opened outlook. Pressed on the outlook icon then on the settings icon. I didn't see any way to "press on your Outlook account" but did see "Accounts". I pressed in it but the menu that came up did not have "Sync contacts/calendars". It did show my Microsoft 365 account. I pressed on it . There was nothing about synching on that menu. Please help.

FYI: my Samsung contacts synched with Outlook when I first got my new phone but hasn't since.

BTW - I have been puzzling on another problem with 3rd party Calendar apps.

Outlook did not show up in the "Manage Calendars". It took me days... ! Really.

And still could not solve it.

Enabling Sync Calendars solved that problem...!

Now 3rd party Calendar apps are working fine again.

    Thanks thanks thanks!

    WOW...

    Many thanks for the above!

I was not aware of that setting either.
So far I "forced" updating the Outlook Calendar app by swiping through the months, or, at the bottom, tap on the 'Mail' button, then on the 'Calendar' button, mail, calendar, mail, calendar....

Just for a short while a pop-up would show up: "Updating..."

I had to do this endlessly... and often, when Outlook got stuck, had to close the Outlook app and start all over again.

Maybe this option is de-activated by default for performance reasons, or saving energy (such as in case of many Calendar entries)

    Anyway, thanks again! Really super.
