Outlook not working on Macbook

I have a mac and have been happily using Outlook for years. Suddenly the mac version isn't working. It says it is online but isn't. I tried the following

  1. Deleting the account and logging back in to be greeted with a blank inbox, no emails, no subfolders.
  2. I reinstalled Office 365 for Mac and still nothing just a blank inbox
  3. I checked the web version and that is working fine
  4. It is also working fine on my phone.

I now want to scream

    I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with Outlook on Mac.

    Please, confirm if you are using the new Outlook or Legacy Outlook on MAC.

    Try recreating your Outlook profile and add your account to the new profile.

    From Finder, open the Applications folder.

    Ctrl+click or right-click Microsoft Outlook, and then select Show Package Contents.

    Open Contents > SharedSupport, and then launch Outlook Profile Manager.

    Select the Create a new profile button, and then enter a name for the new profile.

    If the issue persists, try reverting to the Legacy Outlook and vice versa if on the New Outlook, and checking if working.

    Help menu and select Revert to Legacy Outlook.

    That is great, thank you so much. What worked was reverting to the Legacy Outlook (which to be honest I think is much better than the new one). Thanks for the very prompt and helpful reply.

    I double click on Outlook app and it wont show as open anywhere. I try to use the outlook profile manager and nothing happens when double clicking. This is after restarting, deleting app, reinstalling app.
