My outgoing mail server is offline. I was on the phone with Apple for several hours yesterday and they could not solve the problem and suggested I speak to you.

Hi Wendy Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. I will be happy to help. I am a user just like you and only trying to advice/ assist in a best possible way I could resolve your issue.

I apologies that you are unable to send emails on your MacBook Air, especially after spending hours troubleshooting with Apple. Don't worry, I'm here to help!

Since you can receive emails but not send them, and the outgoing mail server is marked as offline, the issue seems to be related to your email configuration settings. Here are some steps you can try:

    1. Double-check your email settings:

Open Mail.app. Go to Mail > Preferences. Select the account you're having trouble with. Click the Accounts tab. Make sure the account name and email address are correct. Verify that the Server Settings are accurately configured for "smtp.live.com" (SMTP server) and port 587 (TLS). Check the Authentication settings and ensure they match your Live account (username/password). Click Advanced and verify the outgoing server settings again. 2. Use "Take All Accounts Online":

In Mail.app, click Mail > Take All Accounts Online. This might resolve any temporary connection issues with the server. 3. Reset your account:

In Mail.app, go to Mail > Preferences. Select the account you're having trouble with. Click the Accounts tab. Click the - button below the account list to remove it. Click Add Account and re-enter your Live account information. 4. Check for app permissions:

Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy. Select Mail in the left panel. Check the boxes next to Microsoft Outlook and Full Disk Access. 5. Update macOS and Mail.app:

Make sure your MacBook Air is running the latest version of macOS. Open the App Store and check for updates for Mail.app.

Additional tips: Ensure your internet connection is stable and working properly. Try sending a test email to yourself. If you have other email accounts configured in Mail.app, try sending from one of those to see if the issue persists. Check for any error messages in the Mail.app log. You can access it by going to Mail > Develop > Show Log.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue and get back to sending emails!

    Kind regards -Adedayo
