My emails sent from Outlook to Gmail accounts are bouncing back for the past 3 weeks

For the past 3 weeks when I send a group emails to my contacts in Outlook every gmail address is bounced back. The same message is present for each bounce back:

Your message couldn't be delivered. Despite repeated attempts to contact the recipient's email system it didn't respond.

Contact the recipient by some other means (by phone, for example) and ask them to tell their email admin that it appears that their email system isn't accepting connection requests from your email system. Give them the error details shown below. It's likely that the recipient's email admin is the only one who can fix this problem.

For more information and tips to fix this issue see this article: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=389361.

There have been no setting changes to my account so something must have changed recently. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Everyone. It was very frustrating but it appears I got is sorted out (and I know very little technical info about this subject so it took a lot of digging).

It might have been coincidence but my gmail bounce-back problems only began when I renewed my website domain for another year with Go Daddy. It appears when Go Daddy renewed me for another year there were changes made in my DNS settings for my website. These changes removed DKIM settings.

  1. Confirm if your DKIM is enabled (mine was deleted) by checking your DNS for your website through your domain provider. Here is info on DKIM and how to add it to your DNS https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/security/office-365-security/email-authentication-dkim-configure?view=o365-worldwide
  2. Once you have confirmed your DNS has the correct DKIM settings, you can confirm by going to security.microsoft.com > Policies & rules > Threat policies > Email authentication settings > DKIM . Click the domain and it will show DKIM enabled or not (I think it may take DNS setting several hours to reset so maybe wait a bit before this check).
  3. I went to Google Postmaster Tools https://www.gmail.com/postmaster/ and verified my domain https://postmaster.google.com/managedomains

Once these steps were done, I have had no further gmail bounce-back issues. Below is a cut/paste of the details of the email header for emails sent to clients where it can be seen my emails are passing tests for spf, dmarc, and dkim.

ARC-Authentication-Results: i=1; mx.microsoft.com 1; spf=pass
 smtp.mailfrom=emiratescapitalassetmanagement.com; dmarc=pass action=none
 header.from=emiratescapitalassetmanagement.com; dkim=pass
 header.d=emiratescapitalassetmanagement.com; arc=none

I hope this helps and good luck!

    This has been going on for six months with serious difficulties for small organizations. Microsoft waits until a page on this site has a lot of unsolved issues listed, then declares the problem solved, only to start another page with ongoing postings indicating the problem is anything but solved.

    I use MS 365 hosted by GoDaddy, who direct me to the Microsoft page for setting up DKIM, which doesn't work (the promised side bar doesn't open). Unfortunately, that is on Microsoft's site so GoDaddy staff cannot get into it -- and MS doesn't offer support for this problem. They apparently prefer to rotate page after page of people reporting the problem.

    My take is that his is a battle between two tech gorillas, Google and Microsoft, who are not too concerned about tromping on the ants underfoot. It looks like abandoning Microsoft email in favor of Google may be the solution Google has engineered into gmail. For this reason, my scorn is primarily for Google, but Microsoft's dodge of closing one page, declaring the issue solved, only to open another page with the same problem is pretty sleaszy. Why not just admit they can't solve the problem on their own.

    This problem is also affecting me and, based on posts to this forum going back to at least September 2023, it is affecting many more small organizations trying to communicate with members. See:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook_com/forum/all/email-sent-to-multiple-gmail-recipients-bounce/c65dd1a8-2dee-4121-8844-63e445d84712?page=2

    Considering this history, referring to only "two members of this community" is odd.

    I'm using MS Exchange in a GoDaddy account. According to learn.microsoft.com, DKIM is supposed to be set up for custom emails in such accounts:

    "You can choose to do nothing about DKIM for your custom domain too. If you don't set up DKIM for your custom domain, Microsoft 365 creates a private and public key pair, enables DKIM signing, and then configures the Microsoft 365 default policy for your custom domain."

    If this default DKIM is happening, it doesn't seem to be working with emails to my group (e,g,, 18 gmail addresses in a group of 45 are not being delivered). However, I am not getting emails informing me of non-delivery as I was in October/November.

    There is some online indication that this is a problem only for MS 365 and Exchange, but this might not be so.

    I've tried setting up custom DKIM for my custom domain, but the pop-up sidebar simply doesn't appear when I select my domain during the process. (Pop-ups are not blocked.) I tried getting GoDaddy support to help me but they point out that they cannot get into the DKIM set up page to see what is happening. They did confirm that I was not blocking pop-ups.

    Hello Emirates CapitalAsset Management, Good morning!Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.Based on the description you have shared; we understand that email sent to multiple Gmail recipients bounce back ( contacts in Outlook contain multiple gmail addresses). Based on your description, it seems like the same issue i have got with two members of this community. And some emails go through and some not.

    based on the new Gmail policy. Reference: Email sent to multiple gmail recipients bounce back - Microsoft Community.

    Note: Gmail documents starting November 2022, new senders who send grouping emails to Google Gmail accounts must set up either SPF and DKIM.

    But i suggestion on this is to make SPF is set as soft fail and set up DKIM and DMARC and make a test to see. This is based on Google documentation i advise this one.( you can corporate with your domain provider)

    Reference: Set up SPF to help prevent spoofing | Microsoft Learn

    Use DMARC to validate email, setup steps | Microsoft Learn

    You can't force any system to accept your emails if it doesn't provide you the cause to resolve the issue so based on the Gmail try the above steps.

    However, to better understand the problem and provide a solution, we need more details from you, please provide us with the following information. Thank you.

    1. Please can you share with us the original message header via private message.

    2-Please do the extended message trace and share the csv file with us in private message. Reference: Message trace in the modern EAC in Exchange Online | Microsoft Learn ( if you are not admin please ask for help from your IT department)

    Note: Due to some data security, if it is convenient, you may also share above requested information in private message.   Below are the steps to open private message:To View private messages option > click on Profile Picture at top of the right side > Select My Profile option. Image

    We look forward to your reply. This requested information will help us narrow down the scenario and find the right troubleshooting. We will continue to assist you based on the information you provide. I sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation. https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/e273ea3f-32e1-491a-a3e1-9829e5f164da?platform=QnA"https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/e273ea3f-32e1-491a-a3e1-9829e5f164da?platform=QnA" title="filestore.community.support.microsoft.com" rel="ugc nofollow">Sincerelyhttps://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/e273ea3f-32e1-491a-a3e1-9829e5f164da?platform=QnA"https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/e273ea3f-32e1-491a-a3e1-9829e5f164da?platform=QnA" title="filestore.community.support.microsoft.com" rel="ugc nofollow">Eben Ezer Tres | Microsoft Community Moderator
