How do I set a default view in Calendar?

When I open the Calendar in Outlook, it always starts with the default plain view and I have to set up my favourite layout from scratch. First I have to click to select all my calendars, then View -> Week and then Home -> Next 7 Days and then select all my calendars that I want to be shown.

This is so annoying and takes so much time. How can I make this the default view or at least have Outlook remember where I left off?

I am running Microsoft Outlook for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2404 Build 16.0.17531.20140) 64-bit.

Calendar when I open it:

    Hello baseuf,

    Good morning!

Thank you for publishing in Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you

To set a default view in the Calendar section of Outlook or have Outlook remember your preferred layout, you can use the following steps based on the version of Outlook you are using:

    For Outlook desktop on Windows:

    1. Set Default Calendar View:
        - Open Outlook and go to the Calendar section.
        - Customize the Calendar view to your preferred layout (e.g., select all calendars, choose Week view, navigate to Next 7 Days, etc.).
        - Once you have set up your preferred view, go to the "View" tab on the top menu.
    2. Save Current View for Future Use:
        - In the "View" tab, locate the "Change View" option.
        - Click on "Change View" and then choose "Save Current View As a New View."
        - Enter a name for your customized view (e.g., "My Default Calendar View") and click "OK."
    3. Set the Default View:
        - After saving your customized view, go back to the "View" tab.
        - Click on the "Change View" option again and select "Apply View to Other Calendar Folders."
        - Choose your calendar folder and click "Apply" to set your customized view as the default for that folder

Note: If you are still facing the issue let me know.

We look forward to your reply. This requested information will help us narrow down the scenario and find the right troubleshooting. We will continue to assist you based on the information you provide. I sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation.   SincerelyEben Ezer Tres | Microsoft Community Moderator

I'm unable to change the default view on my Microsoft 365 Outlook Calendar, and these instructions are not helpful.

    1. There is no "Change view" option on the view tab (though I can change the appearance by clicking on "Week" or "Month," etc.
    2. There is no "Apply View to Other Calendar Folders" on the View tab.

These options just aren't there! Is this because I have 365? Is there some other way to change the default? For example, what if I'd like to change the column widths or close the view box (with the monthly calendar display)? Help appreciated.

I am having this same issue. I have three different calendars that I have used the "Overlay" feature on. However, every time I open my calendar I have to go back in and check all the right calendars and then overlay them again. How do we make the view with the "Overlay" view save so that we don't have to redo it every time we open the calendar?

I have the same problem and it is ONLY when right clicking and opening calendar or contacts in a new window, it is NOT an issue if i open either in the main window and I'll be danged if i can figure it out, it has been a problem for some time now and I have repaired, restored etc and anytime I right click to open, the previous changes I made are not saved, Now if i close that (or just leave it open) and open in the Calendar in main window my choices are all saved and they open properly.

How can we make the "right click" option emulate the main window OR outlook used to have an optional setting to open the other modules in a new widow but that was before they forced us to use HOTMAIL.

(MS please give us outlook 2007 back)

    Hi Eben Ezer Tres,

    Thanks for your help.

I have tried the suggested solution and it partially works. It is better than before, but I am still missing some details:

    1. I always open the calendar in a new window, which I always want to have maximized. Unfortunately, the calendar is always opened in a non-maximized state.
    2. I always want to have all my calendars selected for viewing. Currently, only the top calendar is always selected, and I have to manually select the others.

    3. After selecting all calendars to view, the calendar selected for new tasks is now the bottom calendar instead of the top, and I have to manually select the top calendar.

I have found that these problems do not occur when I open the calendar in the same window. However, I definitely need Mail and Calendar to be in separate windows, so this would not be a solution for me.
