I am trying to delete folders in my outlook live that I have created, some have files in them some are empty. I am able to delete the emails in the folders but when I right click on the folder itself in the left hand drop down pane where all folders are located, there is no option to delete. The R click action brings up nothing. Therefore I can not delete them. I have tried right clicking and releasing and I have tried right clicking and holding down the right click all on my track pad.

    Hi Emeli,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Furkaan, a user just like you. I’d be happy to help you with your concerns. There are several reasons why you might not be able to delete a folder in Outlook. Here are two possibilities and how to fix them:

    Built-in folders:

Certain folders in Outlook, such as the Inbox, Sent Items, and Trash, are critical to the program's operation and cannot be deleted. There is no delete option when right clicking on these folders.

    Folder permissions:

If you created the folder, there may be a permissions issue preventing deletion. You can try to fix the following issues:

Webmail: Try signing in to your Outlook.com account using a web browser. Navigate to the folder you want to delete and see if the option is available. If this is the case, deleting it via webmail may solve the problem. Unsubscribe from Folder (For IMAP accounts): If you're using an IMAP account with Outlook, the folder might be subscribed to locally. Here's how to unsubscribe:

Right-click on your Inbox (of the account with the folder you want to delete). Select "IMAP Folders." Choose the "Subscribed" tab. Highlight the folder you want to delete and any subfolders. Click "Unsubscribe" and "OK." Try deleting the folder again. If none of these solutions work, it's best to contact Microsoft support for further assistance specific to your account.

Does it look like my screenshot? That is in Safari. If you don't have delete folder on the right click menu - what do you have on it?

    Hi Emeli,

Are you using the Outlook for mac app or Outlook on the web?

If Outlook app, what version are you using? Check on the Outlook app menu. Are you using new Outlook or legacy outlook? If you aren't sure, please post a screenshot.

There is a delete folder option on the right click menu for outlook.com accounts in both. My screenshot is from new Outlook for mac - https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/fa0cff42-6424-4901-8220-f24c0a20e42b?platform=QnA

    Hi Furkaan,

Thank you for your suggestions but none have worked. I understand built in folder's, and it is not these I am trying to delete. I've done all the right clicking in the world and I don't anything from it.

    I'll contact micro support,

    Thanks again emeli
