Shared outlook calendars won't update

Hello, I have an 2 Outlook calendars on my personal email that I historically (i.e., prior to this week) have been able to share with our general research laboratory Outlook. I have editing privileges while our research lab only has viewing privileges. However, this week, none of the edits I make to the calendar events on either calendar are updating in the lab calendar. I have tried re-accepting the initial calendar invitation and waited days for any updates and they're not working. Any assistance ASAP with this issue would be helpful.

    Hello Nicole Ciesinski,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Please accept our sincere welcome here in community support.

I understand how important it is to get this sorted out especially you were frequently using this feature in Outlook.

Here are the steps you can try on your end and we hope this could help your issue.

    1. Check Network and Internet Connectivity:
      • Unstable network connections can disrupt the sync process between the shared calendar and Outlook. Ensure that your internet connection is stable.
      • Restart your router or modem to improve network connectivity.
    2. Verify Sharing Permissions:
      • Open Outlook and click on the Calendar icon.
      • Select the shared calendar that is not syncing.
      • Click on Share > Calendar Permission.
      • Make sure that the calendar has the correct sharing permissions set. Adjust the permissions if necessary to allow syncing with Outlook.
    3. Check for Service Incidents:
      • Microsoft has identified a service incident (EX496574) affecting delegate users’ unprocessed meetings in Exchange Online. This issue may cause sync problems for shared calendars.
      • The fix is being deployed, but it’s essential to verify if your issue is related to this service incident. You can monitor the status updates provided by Microsoft^1^.
    4. Remove and Reassign Calendar Rights:
      • For the problematic user, consider removing and reassigning the rights to the shared calendar.
      • Share the calendar again to ensure proper synchronization.
    5. Control Panel - Navigate to Programs and Features- Locate Microsoft Office:
      • Look for the Microsoft Office product you want to repair in the list.
      • Right-click on it and select Repair.
      • If the Repair option is not available, choose Change.
    6. To create a new Outlook profile, follow these steps:
      1. Open Outlook.
      2. Go to File > Account Settings > Manage Profiles.
      3. Choose Show Profiles > Add.
      4. In the Profile Name box, type a name for the profile, and then select OK.
      5. You can also add more (non-Exchange) mail accounts to your profile, such as Gmail or Live.com. Or you can change options for your account’s data files. See how to Edit an Outlook profile to learn more.

Please make sure to restart Outlook after making any changes and observe if the problem persists. If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your IT support or Microsoft for further assistance. Hopefully, your shared calendars will sync correctly soon!

Thank you, we await for your response.

    Best Regards,

    Ciarra BD.

As Jillian above says, the calendars will sync immediately when you initially sync them, but later updates/changes will not sync even after allowing more than 48 hours for the sync to occur. I have simply gone back to the Old Outlook which works fine albeit taking hours to sync. It is a sad thing not being able to use the New Outlook....you would think someone from Microsoft would acknowledge this seemingly common problem and help us.

I am having what seems to be the identical problem as Nicole. I am an individual wishing to share calendars with my wife a process that works seamlessly until mid March 2024 or so with the old version Outlook . We are both now using the new verions of Outlook. My calendar updates almost immediately with changes in her calendar, but her calendar will not update with changes in mind. If I terminate the sharing with her and then re-invite her, my calendar items will appear in her calendar. BUT, any change made in my calendar after that will not get updated in her calendar.

I am at a loss. Any suggestions.

Well just realised I m not alone and seems like Microsoft doesn't pay any effort of looking into the issue seriously. Now is August and the problem is still unsolved. What can we do? I shared my kids calendars with my husband and kids grandparents as well. Should we switch to Gmail instead?

    Hello,

Thank you so much for this prompt reply and for following up with me directly on this issue.

We had checked the network/internet connectivity which was stable and not the issue. We had also verified the sharing permissions which were unchanged and correct. I also do not think it's a part of the service incident identified (EX496574), as the calendar events are not unprocessed/unaccepted/tentative meetings, rather they are full calendars with several events that were not showing up on accounts who have viewing privileges of that calendar.

However, the solution of removing then reassigning the calendar rights seemed to do the trick! The events across the 'editing' and 'viewing' accounts for a single shared calendar are now up-to-date. I will reach back out in this thread if the issue arises again. Thank you for your assistance!

    My best,
    Nicole
