Encountering the "We're having trouble fetching results from the server..." issue over the past few weeks.
This is occurring in Outlook 2021 on my Exchange account for work. Some people in the office are experiencing the issue and some are not.
Search still functions mostly-properly when switching to the "All Outlook Items" search scope or when selecting the "Let's look on your computer instead" option.
Some sources appear to be saying this is a back-end issue caused by the March 2024 Security update to Outlook 2016/2019, but I am unsure about that since I am using Outlook 2021. The timing does line up with when I started having the issue, however.
Is this a known issue on the back-end in outlook right now? I am aware of two temporary workarounds:
- Using the web browser version of outlook instead
- Adding a registry key to force Outlook to default to the offline "Let's look on your computer instead" results
However, I would prefer to use the standard search which includes server results, as I often need to search for very old emails that would not be stored on my local machine. Because of this, I would prefer not to have to create a registry key to disable that normally-useful search method which uses the servers.
Is this a known issue on the server end of Outlook that would affect the 2021 version as well? Is an update planned to fix the issue?
