I have output the .vcf file and the .csv file from iCloud. Verified all the contacts are in the .csv file by viewing in excel. However unable to import either file using Outlook import file function. I can go through all the steps on importing, selecting the file, however when selecting the location, the "next" button stays grey, never allows to go past that point. It appears to not like the Contacts folder in the selection of locations provided.

Thank you, I clicked the box and then the map custom fields. This took me to another window which requested mapping each line item into a custom field. I think there are about 4000 rows in the csv file.

It's not the rows that are the problem - it's the field names in the first row. Those need mapped to Outlook field names.

Open the CSV in note pad. The first row should have fields like First Name,Middle Name,Last Name,Title,Suffix,Nickname.... (they may have double quotes around the words.) Those need mapped.

If the first line is a contacts name, open the file in excel and add a blank line at the top then add the field names. If you use the ones Outlook uses, they will be mapped automatically.

    These are the correct ones for Outlook - First Name,Middle Name,Last Name,Title,Suffix,Nickname,Given Yomi,Surname Yomi, E-mail Address,E-mail 2 Address,E-mail 3 Address, Home Phone,Home Phone 2,Business Phone,Business Phone 2,Mobile Phone,Car Phone,Other Phone,Primary Phone,Pager,Business Fax,Home Fax,Other Fax,Company Main Phone,Callback,Radio Phone,Telex,TTY/TDD Phone, imAddress,Job Title,Department,Company,Office Location, Manager's Name,Assistant's Name,Assistant's Phone,Company Yomi, Business Street,Business City,Business State,Business Postal Code,Business Country/Region,Home Street,Home City,Home State,Home Postal Code,Home Country/Region, Other Street,Other City,Other State,Other Postal Code,Other Country/Region, Personal Web Page,Spouse,Schools,Hobby,Location,Web Page,Birthday,Anniversary,Notes

One does allow user to select the .vcf file. However, when I do this, it only imports the first contact in the file, though the file contains many more. Unable to determine what character is stopping the import of all the contacts.

    >>

Outlook cannot import multicard vcards. It only imports the first.

    >>

When attempting to import the .csv file, nothing works. In part, I think due to the format.

    >>

On the last steps of the import, did you click the button to map custom fields? you may need ot drag fields from the left to the right to match the apple field names to Outlook field names.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Yes, I am using classic outlook on windows 11. I am attempting to transfer contacts from my iphone, which are stored on icloud, to the outlook on the PC. I have exported the contacts file from icloud in two different formats. First is the .vcf file format. I have verified the file contains all the contacts. The second format is a .csv file.

Outlook provides several options for importing a file. One does allow user to select the .vcf file. However, when I do this, it only imports the first contact in the file, though the file contains many more. Unable to determine what character is stopping the import of all the contacts.

When attempting to import the .csv file, nothing works. In part, I think due to the format. There is no ability to select excel as the software to export the contacts file from icloud into an excel .csv file. Must use notepad or some other text, then save as .csv. This creates a large file that when saved in excel is no longer structured properly. I found an old contacts folder that was a .csv file saved in excel, 2017 timeframe, and each contact had a row, and within that row, the name, emails, phones were stored nicely in separate columns. The current .csv file simply placed everything in new rows, including information that I do not think is relevant. For the contacts I have, the new .csv file populated over 4000 rows in excel. Do not have anywhere near that number of contacts, maybe a 1 or 2 hundred.

Summary: Two separate issues dependent on file structure.

    1. The import of the .vcf file that was output from icloud stops after loading first contact into the outlook contacts folder. Unable to determine how to load all contacts that are contained in the .vcf file.
    2. The method to create a .csv file, using a text editor as first step, creates what appears to be a corrupted or totally unstructured .csv file when compared to an older .csv file that, upon inspection, had each contact and relevant information in sperate row, one row per contact. There was no method to select excel to create the .csv file. Side note: loading the 2017 ,csv file that was structured properly was no issue, imported the contacts without issue.

Hope this more detail helps explain the issue.

Hi, I'm Diane and I'm happy to help you today.

You are importing into classic Outlook desktop software that is installed with Office desktop software, correct?

Which contacts folder is selected? Try selecting the folder to import into before opening the import wizard.

For what it's worth, if it stops on the last screen you need to click Map custom fields - the first field on the left might need mapped to the field on the right.

Let me know how it goes, I'm here to help you further if needed.
