Why do appointments that conclude at midnight show as all day events in month calendar view?

At some point recently, a behaviour changed in Outlook 365. If you create a meeting invite that runs, for example, from 11pm to 12am (midnight), month view shows it as an all day event and brings in to the top of your day's appointments.

This makes no sense to me. I've heard the argument that you might miss later appointments (somebody at MS said this), but it doesn't happen if you create an appointment that ends at 11:59pm. Either way, why would it be showing as an all day event? It seems like this is happening because the meeting technically ends the following day. However, I think Outlook should treat 12:00am as the same day for this purpose.

I checked this in Outlook 2016 and I don't see the same behaviour. This also doesn't happen in week view.

Any ideas why MS would implement this? Or is this a bug?

Here's an example. I created a meeting from 11pm to midnight on the Tuesday and it's showing as an all day meeting (signified by the blue filled day) and it's showing above the 9:30am meeting. The meeting on the Monday is from 11pm til 11:59pm and does not show as an all day event.

    Hi Eleni,

    Thanks for your prompt response.

I would call this a bug fix rather than a feature request, but that's my personal opinion. It seems that this was accidentally introduced at some point, potentially as a side effect of something else.

Either way, thank you for raising this with the Product Development Team. Hopefully we can get some traction. I have one end-user who is particularly annoyed by this!
