"New" Outlook makes all links web URLs, including network links

I use Outlook for work daily and know multiple other people who do as well. We are currently experiencing an issue where both the online and "New" version of Outlook will not let us insert a link to a network location. We share network drives and often send links to each other when files are large, or when we want the other person to see everything in a folder vs. one attached document. When accessing Outlook via web, all inserted links revert to web URLs with no obvious way to override that. The Insert Link option actually reads "Web Address (URL)" where you enter the location. We have also noticed people who have the "New" version of Outlook activated having this same problem on their desktop app. Anyone using the older Outlook format (which has the "Try the new Outlook" toggle turned off) can still send links correctly.

Is this a known issue? Is there any way to override it?

Why does the new Outlook lack basic functionality that was included in older versions?

Found a workaround for anyone looking for one.

In the URL section, paste this before the network path:

    https://outlook.office.com/local/path/file:\*path to network file/folder*

Currently looking for a way to auto populate this but unsure if there is a way.

Why does the new Outlook lack basic functionality that was included in older versions?

I wish they'd let us know, because it seems like a giant step backward to my coworkers and I. The version of Outlook just before this one was extremely useful and intuitive. I especially like how it was programmed to recognize new documents that were recently opened and or saved on your local PC. When you'd select the option to attach a new document, a list would automatically populate showing the most recently saved documents. That made sharing docs so much easier. New Outlook: "Bah. let's do away with that. And let's remove all 'quick keys', too. Yeah. People have been using them since the beginning of Outlook and they're used to them, so let's take them away now".

Because Microsoft is a joke. This is literally basic functionality that should have been included from the start. New Outlook also does not support dragging attachments out of an email into a local file system folder. Absolutely ridiculous.

    Hi,

Do you have an update on this?
    Surely it's been fixed now.

One would surely think and hope so, but of course it isn't.
