How do I see how many emails I have in my inbox (or any other folder) in outlook.com email account?

I can see the number of unread emails next to each folder, but I can't find the total number of read/unread emails.

Hi,

My name is Rita and I'd be glad to help answer your query.

To check the number of emails in your inbox and other folders in Outlook on the web, take the following steps:

  1. On your Outlook page, click on the gear icon (Settings).
  2. Once the settings window opens, click on General on the left pane.
  3. Click on Storage. Here, you will see both the size and number of messages for each folder displayed at the bottom page of the storage window.

Alternatively, right-click on any folder you want to check and you will see the number of emails with number of unread in the bracket, in the case of Inbox.

If this reply was helpful, kindly click Yes to help other users who might have the same query.

Best Regards, Rita.

Why did Microsoft removed the feature of choosing between showing the number of unread message and total number of email? This was great to see at a quick glance how many emails I have in each folder.

Organizing my mails by Action required / Pending Answers / Closed with the number of mails next to it was an easy way to remind myself what action I need to take and who I need to follow up with.

It's really annoying when features are removed instead of being added or improved upon.,

An upvote from me for this comment - why does Microsoft remove features we have used and replied upon for decades? Why can't we just glance at the bottom of the window like we always did to see the number of emails in the selected box? Very frustrating when they keep making their products worse and expect us to pay more for a more frustrating and less helpful product.

Microsoft should bear in mind that Outlook has retained it's dominance in part because it is a single integrated solution for email, Tasks, Calendars, Contacts and the more they disassemble it and the more simplistic it becomes, the less it differentiates itself form the competitors. Enhancing capabilities and features is a good thing, removing them is almost always NOT a good thing.

    Hi Rita,

This was helpful - thanks for sharing!

Is there a way to show this at the bottom left corn of the screen, as it was in the old outlook?

    Thanks!
