Edits to Calendar Events can't be Saved

About a month ago, I started having an issue with saving edited calendar events on a shared calendar that I manage. When I go into an existing Event and edit information such as the date, time, title, or other information and hit "SEND", I get a pop-up saying, "Something went wrong", that "We couldn't save your calendar event. Waiting a bit might help. Keep your calendar event open to try again later." (image of this pop-up is attached).

I have tried to "resume editing", and of course, have waited with the event open, but it still won't save. It seems like this is an issue many others are experiencing as well. Solutions I have seen on other threads include turning off weather displays on the calendar, clearing your cache, and using the app instead of a browser. I have tried all of these things, but nothing has solved this problem. I manage many regular calendar events, and it is a huge hassle to have to delete an original event and replicate it over again from scratch when it only needs a small update, and everyone invited to the event sees the cancellations and re-invitations and becomes confused.

Are there any other solutions that might help? Any updates soon? Thank you.

    Hi Azrael,

I received the same message in the web version of Outlook when trying to edit one event of a series. I tried to edit in the desktop app instead and received a much more helpful message:

"Cannot reschedule an occurrence of the recurring appointment "[meeting name]". It skips over a later occurrence of the same appointment."

I was trying to move a Wednesday meeting to Friday, skipping over the Thursday meeting occurrence. Instead, I moved the Thursday meeting to Friday and the Wednesday meeting to Thursday, and was able to make the changes successfully.

Sharing here in case that's the same issue you ran into!

I have a user who is having the same issue. In his case, Outlook apps on the laptop or phone AND the OWA have the same errors while he is trying to send invites/updates to existing events from his own calendar to internal and external users. He has plenty of mailbox storage as well and the appropriate licenses too, so any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

We're starting to see this issue with multiple users in the office.

We use Outlook Classic with a shared calendar in Public Folders. It has worked well for 10+ years, the calendar is about 500 MB in size so should be fine.

All of a sudden, now we are facing a problem where appointments can't be saved. Outlook pops up a system tray notification with "Sorry, something went wrong. You may want to try again." Tried a hundred times, no good. Other appointments on the same calendar are fine and can be saved like usual.

Maybe it's a bug in the latest version of Outlook Classic? Very annoying, it's hurting productivity and we'll end up needing a workaround or different solution if this continues.

We use a CRM integrated with Outlook, so please don't suggest New Outlook as a solution. Saving appointments in a Public Folder calendar should just work without issues. What changed? Why is this happening now? Thanks!

In my case I was using the New Outlook.

I turned Off the NEW Outlook option, then I turned it back on.

And the calendar started working as expected.
