Outlook 365: How do I change the font size for displayed emails?

Hello,

I'm using Outlook. I don't know what I did, but the font size for all displayed emails and emails being typed has suddenly increased to a huge size! I've gone into the Settings. In the General heading I've selected Medium text size and in the Compose & Reply heading I've select Aptos 12 for the font size, which I think was the original setting. However none of that has changed the font size being displayed. The size is so large that, in some emails, the right-hand end of each line is being lost.

Can someone please help?

    Hello,

It seems like you are facing an issue with the font size in Outlook 365 for displayed emails and emails being typed. Let's try to resolve this issue step by step:

Change Font Size for Displayed Emails: Open Outlook and go to the View tab. Click on View Settings. In the Advanced View Settings dialog box, click on Other Settings. Click on Column Font. Choose the desired font and size. Click OK. Click OK again to close the Advanced View Settings dialog box. Change Font Size for Composing and Replying Emails: Open Outlook and go to File. Click on Options. In the Outlook Options dialog box, click on Mail. Scroll down to the Stationery and Fonts section and click on Stationery and Fonts. Under the Personal Stationery tab, click on Font under New mail messages. Choose the desired font and size. Click OK. Under the Personal Stationery tab, click on Font under Replying or Forwarding Messages. Choose the desired font and size. Click OK. Click OK again to close the Signatures and Stationery dialog box. Click OK to close the Outlook Options dialog box. Additional Steps: Restart Outlook: Close and reopen Outlook to see if the changes take effect. Adjust Display Settings: Right-click on your desktop and select Display Settings. Under Scale and layout, make sure the setting is set to 100%. Click Apply and then OK. Alternative Method: If the above steps do not work, try resetting the Outlook view:

Close Outlook. Press Windows + R, type outlook.exe /cleanviews, and press Enter. Restart Outlook and check if the issue is resolved. If you continue to experience problems, it may be a good idea to repair your Office installation:

Close all Office applications. Open Control Panel > Programs and Features. Select Microsoft Office, click on Change, and choose Quick Repair or Online Repair. I hope these steps help you resolve the issue with the font size in Microsoft Outlook. If you continue to experience problems or need further assistance, please let me know.

    Best Regards, Saurabh

I had exactly the same problem, but the font on my outgoing emails suddenly appeared tiny even though it was set to Aptos 12. It changed suddenly when I touched something on my keyboard/mouse that I couldn't identify or fix. I found the answer at the Microsoft support link below. It seems I'd inadvertently changed the zoom on that view by holding down <control> and rolling the wheel on my mouse. That's how I fixed it <ctrl> mouse wheel roll to increase or reduce the font you're seeing. See this link

    Good luck!

    Hi Saurabh,

Thanks for the quick reply. When I click on View Settings, there is no Advanced View Settings dialog box or option visible. The left column shows five options: General, Email, Calendar, People and Premium. The right column shows 13 options, the first two being 'Layout' and 'Compose and reply'. Do I have an older version of Outlook perhaps?

Edit: Also, there is no File option displayed in this Outlook!

    Hi Saurabh,

Thanks for your reply, but I'm afraid I'm still struggling with this. First, I'm not seeing any option called 'View all Outlook settings' anywhere in the Settings window. Possibly this is because all the settings are being displayed already?

Regarding displayed emails, in the Settings window, if I click on 'Email', there is no heading called 'Message format' in the Layout section. There is a heading 'Text size and spacing', which has options Small, Medium and Large. But this only determines the size of the text displayed in the list of message headers for the selected folder. The other headings in the Layout section are 'Focused inbox', 'Message organisation', 'Message height', 'Sender image', 'Reading pane', 'Message list format', 'Message preview text', 'Inline attachment previews', 'Date headers' and 'Animations'.

For compose and reply, I'd already set the required font size to Aptos 12, which was actually the original font size I was using before this problem occurred. But the font size I'm seeing now when I write a new email is much larger.

In case I've misunderstood your instructions, I'll await your reply before trying your further suggestions.

    Best Regards,

    Bruce

    Hi Saurabh,

Thanks for replying again, but there is no heading called 'Display settings' anywhere on the Settings window in this version of Outlook. It appears that somehow, this version of New Outlook for Windows that I'm running doesn't have the same settings that you are expecting. I'm on an Office 365 subscription, but I'm not sure if this includes automated downloads for Outlook - if it does, then presumably I must have the latest version?

I've also tried your suggestion of running cleanviews, but that has not cured the problem either.

The next thing I might have to try is to repair the Office installation, although this sounds a bit draconian for just dealing with a problem in Outlook. First, can you tell me the difference between Quick Repair and Online Repair? And can this still work when it's an Office 365 subscription?

Many thanks for your efforts to help so far - I just hope we can find a solution eventually!

    Best regards,

    Bruce
