Outlook Office 365 - Can't connect to IMAP servers

I’m pulling my hair out on this one! Outlook giving connection errors (0x800CCC0E). Started this morning.

  • Occurring on 2 different (unrelated) IMAP email servers (so it's not the email server)
  • Works on one of my two PCs on the same network (so it's not the network)
  • Tried repairing Outlook
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Office 365 (rebooting after each) (so it's not the program)
  • Downloaded and installed latest MSO 365 updates
  • Successfully able to Telnet to the IMAP servers (so it's not the PC)
  • Getting error "we couldn't connect to the incoming (IMAP) server..." when trying to add back the email accounts.
  • Tried all encryption methods and options. Tried both email servers.

What next???

Windows 10

Outlook Version 2402 (Build 17328.20184)

Outlook | Windows | Classic Outlook for Windows | For home

I am having the same problem, and my production messaging is down on my app. Tried everything, including 3 support calls with Microsoft and they could not figure it out either.

I have determined that IMAP is no longer supported (at least under normal circumstance) with Office 365.

    Another disappointment from Microsoft.

Nope, had to call Microsoft support and they walked me thru about a 20-minute process. No explanation on why or how to prevent it in the future. Not a fan of 365, to say the least.

Since I deleted al my email accounts and reinstalled Office 365, my errors occur in setting up the email account, so I no longer get the 0x800CCC0E error. I now get error "we couldn't connect to the incoming (IMAP) server...".

    Regarding your suggestions:

-With all accounts removed, I have no duplicate accounts

-I have tried changing server port numbers as suggested. No change

-I have tried all combinations of authentication. No change

-I have disabled firewall & antivirus software. No change

I installed Mozilla Thunderbird and successfully created accounts and connected to servers with my original IMAP setup. It appears to me that Outlook has some internal comm issue.

Thank you for your attention into this.

    Jim

    You are incorrect.

You can't connect anymore on any pop/imap from the new outlook. Except gmail/yahoo

You need to stay on the classic one or use a real pop/imap client (almost any other tool except new outlok).

The joke is new outlook says invalid credential without even trying a tcp connection to the imap/pop server. Checked in server's logs and with tcpdump.

DONE and FIXED after 3 weeks!

First it is NOT outlook stopping you so DO NOT change any setting.

I, in Australia am using Telstra as provider, so:

I went to my Telstra Webmail, since I couldn't reach my mail from my Microsoft outlook 2019, in my Webmail I changed my password and waited for approval from My provider: Telstra. (You go to accounts there you should be able to Change password.)

You will need to Re-log in with your New password in your Webmail

After logged in webmail when in your email box go to Settings in Settings go to Accounts, in Accounts go to Manage passwords and or App-Specific Passwords, there click Revoke all.

Now go back to outlook 2019/21/... and change your password to the new one, and Voila.

I made a mistake 3 weeks ago to delete my account, couldn't reset it and lost all my contacts!? so this way you keep everything the same.

Hope it works for you I did try everything else, contacted Microsoft 4 times and my provider 6 times and finally the last tech guy from my provider showed me the way.
