Hi there,

I've followed your advice to other people on changing my display name as I send emails but my name still appears incorrectly on the recipient's email.

As an example,

Email address is: ******@hotmail.co.uk

First name: John

Last name: Smith

Under account information, my full name appears as 'John Smith' and has done for years, however, whenever I send an email my name always appears as 'johnsmith99' to whoever receives my emails when I would like it to display as 'John Smith'.

Please could you help.

You're using new outlook, not classic outlook. If the account is not an outlook.com or Microsoft 365 business accounts, it is IMAP or POP and the display name is not editable at this time. It's going to be your email address. Sorry.

    Hi Diane,

    Thanks for your reply.

Sounds silly, but how do I know what account type I have? Regarding POP and IMAP, the only option I have is to 'Let devices and apps use POP', under 'Sync email', see below, so I'm guessing my account isn't either of these.

    Thanks,

    Louise.

Hi, I'm Diane and I'm happy to help you today.

Are you using classic Outlook desktop software that is installed with Office desktop software?

What type of email account do you have configured in Outlook? POP, IMAP, Outlook.com, or Microsoft Exchange?

If you are using classic Outlook and pop or IMAP, go to File > Account Settings > Account Name & Sync settings. The Your name field at the very top. https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/abf581a6-603e-425f-b812-c0b67bfcba4a?platform=QnA

Exchange accounts, including outlook.com, get the name from the active directory. It is not configurable by the end user. The admin needs to change it.

If you are using new Outlook, the name is not configurable. Sorry.

Let me know how it goes, I'm here to help you further if needed.
