How do I attach as a copy and not as a link from OneDrive on New Outlook?

Hello!

On the Microsoft 365 version of Outlook I get the question on how I want to attach a file, as link or copy. I usually select copy, so recipients can't edit the original file. On New Outlook I have found no such option. Is it possible? Or do I have to give up on New Outlook?

    Kyle,

There is no current setting to make Attach as Copy the default in either OWA or New Outlook. If you want the team to add this, please submit feedback via Help, Feedback in New Outlook.

In the meantime, you can choose to attach a copy each time you attach a file. It's not super obvious, but in my example below I am attaching a file to an email in New Outlook and after I select the file, I click the dropdown for Share Link and click Attach to attach a copy.

    Hi,

Yes. I understand how to switch from a link to an attachment.

I want to be able to have the default be an attachment and NOT a link to save time as I attach documents quite frequently in my line of work.

SamanthaJayne, did you ever figure this out? I'm running into the same issue, and am hoping there's a way to change the default behavior because this new approach (default links instead of actual attachments) is decidedly un-helpful.

I would also like to know if there is a solution? I don't want files in links but prefer the old method of attaching files to emails. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Sebastian Wie Murphy,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. I'm happy to assist you with this request.

In the “New Outlook” for Windows, you can still attach files as links or copies. Here’s how you can do it: Compose a new message, select attach file > Onedrive > select file > click on the dropdown arrow next to attach the link, and select attach. For details see the attached screenshot:

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Best regards,

    Community Moderator
