Attaching files from sharepoint as links

Hello,

recently the behaviour when attaching file as a link has changed and now the link is appended into the text and not as "attachment" like when attaching file in "hardcopy". If this is intentional change, is there a way to revert to old behaviour, which was in my opinion way (way) superior?

thank you

jakub

Hi, is there resolution on this? I agree with what everyone else here has said - removing the Sharepoint as an attachment and instead as a link severely undercuts Outlook's already poor searching functionality. When I want to reference by attachments, this link-feature is useless.

Is there a reversion available to go back to previous functionality?

I started to experience the same issue. How can we revert back? This a rather time consuming inconvenience that it appears no one "signed up" for.

Please advise as to how we can fix this issue.

We have the similar issues in our organization. Sharepoint links are now being inserted as text in the mail instead of attaching it as Sharepoint file link.

It is a hassle since if we need to forward the email to the next , we have to copy the link into the new email, unlike before that once we "Forward" the email, the sharepoint file is still appended in the email

Toally agree I rely on the attached file to find key documents sent to others. Now I have to look inside emails to find documents which is enormously waste of time and far less efficient please bring the old feature back to allow attaching a link file as an attachment so its easy to flag for both the sender and receiver.

    Hello,

thank you for your response, kindly find my comments below:

Based on your description, I understand you have concern for Classic Outlook desktop experience, if so,

    • Correct, using Outlook Classic, Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2401 Build 16.0.17231.20194) 64-bit

Before moving forward, I would like to collect couple of information to narrow down your current scenario. So, could you please allow me to collect?

May I know which Outlook version you are using; you might refer to What version of Outlook do I have? - Microsoft Support.

    • Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2401 Build 16.0.17231.20194) 64-bit

May I know you are experiencing the same issue in Outlook on the web?

    • cannot really tell, Im not using web version

In the meantime, I need to double check if you follow this article Attach files in Outlook - Microsoft Support, are you still facing certain issue to attach file?

If it is convenient, please provide me more details or screenshot about “when attaching file as a link has changed and now the link is appended into the text and not as "attachment" like when attaching file in "hardcopy", to do further analysis.

    • previously, the links to the files stored on sharepoint/onedrive were attached as if they were any other attachment. You could tell by the paper clip icon next to the e-mail. now, it is just a "hyperlink" in the body of the e-mail. also, to modify the access rights, you have to open additional window, unlike prior to this change.

    thank you for any support.

    with regards

    Jakub
