Outlook does not save email account settings when I try to update them. Dialogue box states: "Something went wrong and Outlook couldn't save your account settings. Please try again." Is there a way to stop this going wrong and save settings? Outlook cannot receive or send emails.

I found a workaround for this frustrating issue:

    1. Press the Windows Key and search for "Control Panel."
    2. In the Control Panel window search for "Outlook."
    3. In the search results click "Mail (Microsoft Outlook)," and then "Email Accounts..."
    4. Highlight the account and click "Change..."
    5. From here you can change POP/IMAP servers and username. Click on "More Settings..." to change outgoing server login information, port numbers, and encryption.
    6. When finished, use "Test Account Settings..." to make sure everything is working correctly. Then "Next" and finally "Finish."

    Dear all,

My partner has the same issue, he is unable to save any changes to the server settings via MS Outlook on his laptop.

Our previous service provider was Aussie Broadband, and we had no issues with Outlook, besides slow internet speed in the afternoons and evenings. I upgraded our internet service provider to Vodafone-NBN, who provided me with a Netcomm router (Hybrid 6), with Mesh technology.

    I have no issues with my outlook, am able to send/receive emails, I have a gmail account. My partner has an OPTUS email account, now this is where it gets interesting;

    1. He can send/receive emails via OPTUS Webmail ... but that's not user friendly for doing business
    2. He can send / receive emails via MS Outlook on his laptop, when he hotspots to his OPTUS mobile service provider
    3. He is able to receive emails via Outlook on his laptop, connected to our home wi-fi (Vodafone-NBN)
    4. He is NOT able to send emails via Outlook on his laptop, connected to our home wi-fi (Vodafone-NBN)

    What we have tried:

    1. Changing the encryption and port number on the Outgoing SMTP mail server, Outlook refuses to save the changes.
    2. Opened Outlook in safe mode (outlook.exe -safe) and attempted to do the same SMTP outgoing server changes there, Outlook refuses to save the changes.
    3. Went via Control Panel, searched on Mail (Outlook) and attempted to change the settings there for the outgoing server, ran an email test, no joy there.

It almost feels like the Outlook outbound SMTP server (same as the Incoming server) has an issue with the Vodafone-NBN Wi-Fi .. like there is an obstruction somewhere. But, I don't understand why outlook refuses to save the account changes.

I have even selected the "Repair" feature for the email account having issues, and it made no difference.

We are at our WITS END ... and from what I read; other people are having the same issues with their outlook & sending emails.

    Hi,

The above-mentioned workaround does not work for me. I've tried it multiple times. There must be some other solution. I keep receiving the msg "outlook does not save email account settings" Is this related to the outlook version, options settings or updates? I have not changed anything.

    I have the same problem.

I found a solution that worked for me, but it is silly and counter-intuitive.

When you get the failure message, there is a blue link in the bottom left corner that says "retry".

Just retry repeatedly. After about five or six attempt, it suddenly saved my changes. I tried this on four different email accounts.
