How do in insert hyperlink in a message in "New Outlook"? Here is what I've tried so far:

  • The Link dropdown in the Insert group on the Message ribbon, but the only option is Remove hyperlink and it is greyed out.
  • Select and right-click text within the message, but there is no option for link or hyperlink.

    Dear Daniel R Gerow,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community.

To insert a hyperlink in a message in "New Outlook" for Windows, please follow these steps:

    1. Open a new message or reply to an existing message.
    2. Type the text that you want to turn into a hyperlink.
    3. Highlight the text that you want to turn into a hyperlink.
    4. Click on the "Insert" tab in the ribbon at the top of the message window.
    5. Click on the "Link" button in the "Links" group. Here, click on the link icon not the text "Link"
    6. In the "Insert Hyperlink" dialog box, type or paste the URL that you want to link to in the "Address" field.
    7. Click "OK" to insert the hyperlink.

However, you may also use a keyboard shortcut key to insert a hyperlink in the new Outlook for windows. You can use CTRL + K hot key, it will open the "Insert Hyperlink" dialog box and add your address and display name. Then, your text should now be underlined and in blue, indicating that it is a hyperlink. When the recipient clicks on the link, it will take them to the URL that you specified.

I look forward to your update. Please feel free to let me know how it goes or if I got you wrong. If you still have any concerns, please let me know so I can provide more suggestions.

Thank you for your precious time. Have a nice day.

    Sincerely,

That only works if you are inserting a link to an URL. I can not figure out how to "Copy Path As" and insert a link to a folder from our server to send to colleagues. In old Outlook you just hold Shift+ Right click the folder and Copy Path As and then insert link into the email and it creates a hyperlink to that folder. This is not working in the new Outlook.

While this does work, it's not efficient! Especially since the "old" Outlook automoatically hyperlinks web and email addresses! I simply don't understand why Microsoft STILL hasn't incorporated this feature into the "new" (and severely flawed) Outlook! It doesn't make sense! And, why can't I copy and paste email addresses into the "To" field like I can with the "old" Outlook? And why can't I edit email groups in the "new" Outlook? You rolled out the "new" Outlook over a year ago or so and have made zero improvements.

I've used ctrl-k for years for both urls and links to internal files and folders on servers.

But recently it doesn't work for files and folder. The latest Outlook seems to append "http://" to the hyperlink.

A Copilot search told me that I now need to manually insert "file:///" before the file or folder location, but at lease during composing and crtl-left-click, I can't get any combination of "file://" or "file:///" to work.

What's the magic way not to link to a file or folder in the New Outlook?

    Thanks!

I am experiencing the same issue that I can not insert a link to a folder from our server at the new outlook.
