I received an email from ******@communication.microsoft.com saying "The safety and security of your information is top priority for Microsoft. To help keep your account secure, Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods. If you do not act, your third-party email apps will no longer be able to access your Outlook.com, Hotmail or Live.com email address on September 16th."

I use Thunderbird Supernova Email client version 115.12.2 (64-bit) on my PC. What settings would I have to make to continue to use Thunderbird.

I do not understand what I need to do with my Hotmail account before Sept.16, 2024. I am assuming this is referring to Outlook.com. Is there someone that I can speak to on the phone to fix this before I am locked out?

Hi, I'm Diane and I'm happy to help you today.

You need to use oAuth2 authentication method, not "Normal password". https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/cf9d0fc2-b7ca-4976-899c-57f6f42236cf?platform=QnA

Let me know how it goes, I'm here to help you further if needed.

    Hi Linda,

I have the same question. My accounts are Hotmail/Outlook. I use the outlook app on my phone and PC.

I tried several times to contact Microsoft, recorded message. Home or business user. I said home. next was how can we help today? I tried various ways of saying email/email account but in the end the AI assistant said we don't know what you mean and hung up, they did suggest trying the help on the email app. I gave that a go, typed in my question then it said analysing pleas wait. then it said I am on a free office package if I wish to chat with an assistant I need to upgrade to a paid one. So I gave up.

Cheers and good luck : )
