what are the risks of moving to New Outlook?

I am a non-tech subscriber to Microsoft 365, running Windows 10 on a laptop that I know cannot be updated to Windows 11. I feel pressurised by repeat messages advising me to switch to New Outlook, including the statement that the old Outlook will end by the end of 2024. I am also constantly annoyed when some links or messages automatically open in New Outlook, blocking my access to Old, so I have to go through the routine of switching back, skipping the Feedback page, etc (in the past I used to enter Feedback to this effect but what's the point when I am powerless?) in order to return to my old settings.

I fear that switching to New Outlook will delete the large volume of emails I save in subfolders in Old Outlook and on which I rely for reference.

I fear also that my Contacts will be lost if I permanently switch, or by the end of 2024.

I see no reason to use Edge at present, am perfectly content with Chrome.

I am not opposed to change and technology updates, but as a low-tech user, I do not understand much of the language and references I read online and in replies posted in communities. I just want to be able to continue to have a reliable, user-friendly email service, continuing into 2025.

Please explain and advise on all this, in language I will understand.

Thanks, Iso

    Hi, Isobel49!

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.  I realize that you've encountered a problem with < Moving to New Outlook> and I understand how you feel.

You may have misunderstood. outlook does not say to stop the service. What is being discontinued is Windows Mail, and you can still use the classic version of Outlook, which is what you call the old Outlook, by clicking on the link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/outlook-for-windows-the-future-of-mail-calendar-and-people-on-windows-11-715fc27c-e0f4-4652-9174-47faa751b199

Feel free to post back if you need further assistance.

    Best Regards,
