Differences "Junk" vs. "Block"

Outlook Android - I m getting "slammed" by political & investmant **** emails that I DON'T want to see, much less read.

So I want better understand the differences in what "happens" after I designate a received email as "Junk" or select "Block Sender".

I do understand that selecting "Junk" moves it to the "Junk Folder", so it's not immediately deleted [but I can later delete it or all the Jrnk folders contents]. However, I don't understand what -- if anything -- happens to FUTURE emails from that same sender, domain, etc.

If I select "Block Sender", I know it's supposed to block future emails from that same sender (although sometimes they seem to "slip through"), but I don't know if that email gets deleted or sent to another folder.

Finally, is there a way I can cause Outlook to "Block Sender's Domain"? MANY of these "****" emails come from different "senders" within a single email "domain". I don't want ANY of them!

Thanks!

    Dear D PaulDalton,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

As you mentioned, selecting "Junk" moves the email to the Junk folder, Future emails from the same sender might still be delivered but are likely to be filtered into the Junk folder and Outlook's spam filters learn from your actions, so marking emails as junk helps improve its ability to identify future spam.

Block Sender prevents future emails from the specified sender from being delivered to your inbox, Blocked emails are typically deleted or moved to a separate folder (depends on your Outlook settings) and Outlook's spam filters might still learn from your actions, but blocking a sender is a more direct approach.

Unfortunately, Outlook for Android doesn't have a built-in feature to block entire domains directly. However, you can try these workarounds:

    • Manually block multiple senders from the same domain to effectively filter out most emails from that domain.
    • Regularly review and delete emails in your Junk folder to prevent it from filling up.
    • If you encounter phishing emails, report them to Outlook to help improve spam filters.

By understanding the differences between Junk and Block Sender, and by utilizing additional strategies like creating multiple block sender rules or exploring third-party email services, you can significantly reduce the number of unwanted emails you receive.

I hope this helps, if you need more inofrmation, please let me know and provide details, I'll be happy to assist you further. Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue right away. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your help.
