How to create the ø in the new Outlook?

Hi, A colleague of mine has a ø in his name. I used to be able to write that by typing 'ctrl + /, o' (as written in Keyboard shortcuts to add language accent marks in Word and Outlook - Microsoft Support ) and that still works in Word, but in the new Outlook that does not work anymore. Typing 'ctrl + /' now leads to starting a numbered list and I cannot find anywhere how to turn that off, or even where that shortcut is listed.

So please, how can I write the ø in the new Outlook, without the use of a numpad, as my laptop does not have one.

Kind regards,

Joost

    Use ALTGR+L instead.
    SHIFT+ALTGR+L for the capitalized version.

In case it isn't marked on your keyboard; ALTGR is the ALT key on the right side of your spacebar.

CTRL+ALT+L and SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+L work as well.

Thanks! It does not really make sense, using something with l, but at least it works.

Yeah, I guess there are just too many variants of that character, so they were put behind (somewhat) adject characters for most keyboard layouts.

For instance, the characters behind ALTGR+ q, w, p, z might also be somewhat unexpected, but they are near their base character just like the l. At least, that is how I try to remember them ;-)

Oh, I forgot about the windows emoji panel - Windows key + . (dot) Once you use it, the character will be at the top of page in the recent list.

BTW, Most laptops have a way to enable a keypad but the laptop keypad is clumsy to use, especially for one character. Copying from word or the character map is also clumsy, but you can leave the character map open if you use it a lot, or paste the characters you use a lot into word and keep the file open. But... it still needs fixed.

Hi, I'm Diane and I'm happy to help you today.

Please leave Feedback from the Help tab > Feedback or in the Outlook Feedback Portal at https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/forum/89a8afa3-2e1c-ec11-b6e7-0022481f8472 - they changed a lot of long-time shortcuts.

Alt+0216 works for me in new Outlook ( Ø ) but you need to use the numeric keypad to enter the numbers.

This should work - 00F8 then ALT+X ( ø ) - but is not working for me in new outlook. It uses the number rows, not the keypad - letters can be entered lower case. https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/9adc3202-a7a3-4404-b32f-200ffea8b104?platform=QnA
