Rules for new outlook

I am still trying to set up "rules" in "New Outlook" (I have subscribed to 365 for some years). When following the prompts and select "Advanced Options" I get a message saying (Option not available on this account). Surely the ability to set a rule for incoming mail is basic on all subscriptions without reverting to the previous version.

    Dear Terrance07,

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

I would like to offer you some help with your question and hope that it will be useful to you.

The program “New Outlook” is an updated version of the previous Mail for Windows. It is a new freeware based on web development. Therefore its functionality is not perfect.

You mentioned that you are using 365 subscription. It is recommended that you use classic outlook. Your purchased privileges will be better utilized in this software.

    Thanks for your response.

    Dear Terramce07

Is your email address a third party email address?

I'm sorry to tell you that currently outlook new does not support the creation of rules for third party emails. However, outlook 365 and outlook classic are supported.

In fact, the new Outlook for Windows is a web browser based application to access Microsoft Mail. It is not possible to use files such as (.pst) files or three-way plug-ins like in the classic version, i.e. only cache but no files. ref: New and classic Outlook for Windows feature comparison - Microsoft Support

If you want, you can go back to outlook classic to use the rules' function.

To switch from new outlook to classic outlook, you can refer to Toggling out of the new Outlook for Windows preview - Microsoft Support

Thanks Mark for your reply. My problem is, in "outlook new", when I right click on a message I only get the option to "move" the mail to a folder. This will move this mail but not give me the option to apply to all mail from that sender. I had no difficulty in the older version. I just cannot work out why this function does not appear in the "new" version.

I only get three options on the top ribbon, Home, View and Help. There is no "File" option.

I have used the "Create Rule" option for years but cannot find it now.

I hope this helps clarify my problem.

    Cheers

    Terry

    Dear Terramce07

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Hello, According to your question you can refer to the following methods to set up your mail rules:

    1.  Right-click a message in your inbox or another email folder and select Rules.

    1. Select one of the options. Outlook automatically suggests creating a rule based on the sender and the recipients. To view more options, select Create Rule.

3.In the Create Rule dialog box, select one or more of the first three checkboxes.

4.In the Do the following section, if you want the rule to move a message to a folder, check the Move item to folder box, then select the folder from the Select Folder dialog that pops up, and then click OK.

5.Click OK to save your rule.

**Note:**If you want to run the rule on messages you've already received, check the box on the confirmation dialog that pops up and then click OK.

Hope these steps will help you to successfully create rules in Outlook 365!
