Just got the email that outlook 2007 is going to stop working in sept 24.

This is a disaster for me, i use it every day to keep in touch with all my volunteers etc. and have a LOT of data in there and LOTS of backups from the last 20 years.

I CANNOT lose all that and can't afford to buy yet another program just to do the same as a program i have already brought (outlook 2007). i have never had any security issue with it so am not happy.

So what do i do to keep using outlook 2007 or what is a free alternative which can also see all the contacts (thousands) i have and all the backups of emails etc.

I am far to old to start learning new things

NO IDEA what topic to pick below!!!!!

You can actually still use Outlook 2007, it's just that you will have to create an app password(for that you must have two factor authentication on) and change the Outlook 2007 password to the one that was generated.

I used Outlook 2007 till yesterday, when I changed to Outlook 2010.

You can stilll use it, but as an alternative you can choose Mozilla Thunderbird.

No Microsoft email addresses here, ever.
Gmail and my local cable co.

2 pop email addresses being handled well by Outlook 2007, and here's hoping it stays that way.

Gmail has been having us use what they call an 'AppPassword' for several years now because of the insecure protocols used by Outlook 2007.
It's a crazy long password that their servers deal with. They still claim that using Gmail on the web is more secure than what I'm doing but I like Outlook, I'm used to it and that's where everything lives, more to the point, I know how to find stuff in Outlook lol :)

Hello cassie76, I'm Johrelle a fellow Windows/Microsoft user. I'm happy to assist you.

Don't worry, you won't lose your data. Outlook 2007 will stop working, but your emails and contacts are still accessible. Open Outlook. Go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export and choose Export to a file > Next. Click "Personal File Folder (.pst) > Next. Select all that you want to export. Make sure that the Include subfolders check box is selected. Select "next" and choose where you want to save the Outlook Data File (.pst) and click OK. Click Finish. If you see a dialogue box. If you want to put a password to protect your .pst file, enter the password in the Password and Verify password text field. Otherwise, if you don't want you can select "OK".

As for the alternative, I can suggest Mozilla Thunderbird or eM Client. They are free to use. Both can import the .pst files and manage contacts.

Do note that those are not Microsoft products and be careful when downloading them to their respective websites. Avoid any advertisements that may advertise products that are PUP (Potentially Unwanted Products).

I use Outlook 2007 and just started seeing threatening sounding forum posts about all Outlook products below the current version stopping working on Sept 24th, 2024 also but it's very confusing as to whether they are simply talking about Outlook.com or all versions of Outlook. I'm starting to thing that this is a scam perpetrated by their sales department to scare everyone into spending money on new MS products. I would think that if Outlook was going to stop working with pop and imap connections we would have heard Google shouting it from the rafters regarding what to do about the millions of Gmail accounts accessed by Outlook 2007/10/16 etc.
We have not heard a peep from either Microsoft or Google about any impending doom. Other than what you and I have read in forums.

I just spent 10 minutes googling around.... we're safe, there is NO issue unless you are funneling your various email accounts (apple, gmail etc) into an Outlook.com account.

Microsoft is changing the way it's email servers authenticate user accounts.

I can't wait for the EU to shut down this insane move MS is making by trying to make three quarters of the PC users in the world buy new PCs before next October, TPM2 is complete and utter nonsense for home users, besides, it's already been cracked.

Have a great month, you're safe

I use Office 2007 and have not seen anything about it not working after a date. Can you link to where you saw this statement.

It went out of support some years ago but I be surprised to have it stop working suddenly.

I see the Thunderbird has been offered as an alternative. That is certainly what I would go for.
