why are one years worth of emails missing from my Outlook email account?

Ok at the risk of looking like an idiot, I'll tell you what fixed it for me, just for the sake of the community.

I originally checked the filters but saw nothing checked. I didn't think to click the Sort subsection at the bottom. It had been set to Subject.

I'm still not sure why that would produce 1 year's worth reshuffled but it is what it is.

Looks like someone at Microsoft is messing with the accounts or they have been hacked
