Sharing and editing contacts with other people in outlook.com account

Hi all,

I got an Outlook.com account. I can share my calendar with others to view and edit. However, I also want to share contacts to other people view and edit. Is Outlook.com has such capability to share contact? If not, any other way from Microsfot support both sharing of calendar and contact? Can Outlook.com for business supports such sharings?

Thanks,

Kenneth.

I have been sharing outlook contacts for years. I simply click on the contact and forward as business card or simply share. Now, something happened and those on the other end can see 'vcf" contact but cannot open it. I don't need to know how to send a folder. Just a contact. Perhaps I erroneously prevented others from seeing my contacts. If so, how do I give permission back to everyone so they can accesss individual contacts when I forward same?

    Hello! tsb kkw

    Thank you for the reply!

Just to set expectation if you are going to use Outlook.com for business this will be out of my expertise and would suggest to create a new thread for discussing this matter.

However, since you have Outlook 2016 for accessing Outlook.com, technically the only way for sharing contacts, and calendars are to export them through using the .PST file and import them to the account you want. Import and export Outlook email, contacts, and calendar - Microsoft Support

Also, regarding for the sharing option you have on the screenshot. We can safely say that it is not supported for personal use Outlook.com. What I can suggest since you have an Outlook 2016 is for you to export the contacts and calendars and import it to the person you want to share it with. Also, please note that make sure the person you are sharing with has an Outlook 2016, 2019, 2021 or 365 desktop application.

    I hope this helps!

    Dear Vince,

    Hello Kenneth,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community

It seems to me that you are trying to share and allow editing for contacts with other people using Outlook.com.

    Allow me to ask:

    1. I would like to know what @domain and who is hosting your email account? example for @domains: Gmail.com, Yahoo.com, Outlook.com/Hotmail.com
      • May I know if the account is for Work/School use? or Personal (Hotmail/Outlook.com) use? We are using Outlook.com for personal use. I would like to share my calendar and contact to 2 other perople and so they can view and edit these calendar and contact.
    2. May I know how do you access your emails? is it through Outlook.com (web)? Outlook application (included in Microsoft 365 subscription)? New Outlook for Windows? Classic Outlook for Windows (Windows Mail app)? Outlook application for mobiles?
      • What version and edition of Office do you have installed in your device? Example: Personal/Family/Enterprise?
        • You can open any Office apps
        • Go to File > Accounts - on the right side you can see Product Information We are using Outlook 2016 to access the Outlook.com account.

Yes, Outlook.com has the capability to share contacts with others. Here are the steps to share contacts in Outlook.com:

    1. Go to Outlook.com and sign in to your account.
    2. Click on the "People" icon at the bottom left corner of the screen.
    3. Select the contact you want to share and click on the "Share" button at the top of the screen.
    4. Enter the email address of the person you want to share the contact with and select the level of access you want to give them (view only or edit).
    5. Click on the "Share" button to send the invitation.

I tried but I cannot see the Share button you described as the picture below showed.

Outlook.com for business also supports sharing of contacts and calendars. You can use Microsoft Exchange to share contacts and calendars with other users in your organization. (However this will depends on the preferences)

I am able to share calendar but not contacts. Is contact sharing a limitation to free version of Outlook.com? Do I need to subscribe to Outlook.com for business for such contact sharing?
