Easiest way to Obtain Outlook Logs

Dear Microsoft Community,

We are currently troubleshooting an issue with a third party CRM and Outlook.

The developers have suggested we provide them with the outlook logs, so they can cross check the event IDs in their systems.

Instead of doing extensive googling, I thought it may be easier to ask here.

Where can we obtain these logs in outlook? Would you be able to provide instructions?

If you need any further information from me let me know.

Thank you for your help.

    Hello Nat NZ,

    Thank for your reply!

If Enable troubleshooting logging options is not enabled manually, some kinds of logs will not be captured and recorded. For diagnostic purposes, Microsoft Outlook for Windows contains an option that turns on logging for certain Outlook features. These logs can be helpful for support staff who are troubleshooting problems. You may check this article as reference What is the Enable logging (troubleshooting) option?

By default, no matter enabled Enable troubleshooting logging options or not, your Outlook client will also capture the**.etl** logs for a period. You may go to C:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Temp\Outlook Loggingand find the logs as below.

Thus if you have not enabled this Enable troubleshooting logging options at the time the event occurred, some kinds of troubleshooting logs may not be captured but Advanced ETW logs may be captured automatically under C drive as shared path.

Hope the above workaround would be helpful. If you need further assistance, please feel free to let me know, I will keep assisting you.

Again, your understanding and patience will be appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hello Nat NZ,

Thank you for posting this case in Microsoft Community!

Based on your description: Easiest way to Obtain Outlook Logs. I would like to cooperate with you working on this case. To clarify this case, are you using New Outlook for Windows or Classic Outlook for Windows? If using New Outlook, you may try below steps to enable logging and find the log path:

    1. Firstly, you may go to New Outlook>Settings>General>About Outlookand check Enable troubleshooting logging for 24 hours if enabled normally.

    1. Then you may go to this path C:Users/username/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Olk/logs and find the logs by time as you want.

If you are using Classic Outlook for Windows, you may also enable Enable troubleshooting loggingoptions via going to File>Options>Advanced>Other. Then you can go toC:\Users\user name\AppData\Local\Temp\Outlook Loggingand find the logs as you want.

See more information, you may check below articles as reference:

What is the Enable logging (troubleshooting) option?

Hope the above workaround would be helpful. If you need further assistance, please feel free to let me know, I will keep assisting you.

Your understanding and patience will be appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hi Eleni,

Thank you for your prompt response to my post!

I can confirm that we are using classic outlook. I followed your instruction and I note that we do not have "Enable troubleshooting logging" ticked by default.

Therefore, if we did not have this enabled at the time the event occurred, does this mean we do not have access to those logs for that time?

Again, I really appreciate your help!
