Start Outlook with Mail and Calendar open in separate windows

With the classic Outlook interface I was able to have separate Mail and Calendar windows open (one on my main screen and the other on the laptop screen. More to the point, Outlook would open in that state, i.e. two windows on separate screens, one displaying email, and the other showing calendar. To make that "stick" I had to quite outlook using File - Exit.

With new outlook I haven't found a way to have two windows open automatically as I can't find an equivalent of the File - Exit functionality. It's a pain in the butt to have to open and position a second window each time I start outlook. Perhaps I just need to go back to the Classic interface and not waste time.

Assuming you are viewing your email, right-click on your Inbox folder and from the context menu choose new window. Now that you have two windows showing your email, just click on the calendar icon in one of those windows and you will have a window with your calendar and another with your email.

As long as you quit Outlook from the Outlook menu then those two windows will reopen when you restart Outlook (at least they did for me). Give it a try...

I also was quite frustrated, that we the new outlook (not Legacy) it seems to be impossible to work with 2 separate windows.
    BUT not true
I found a quite easy way.

    Don't touch anything in Outlook!
Go down in the Dock LIst at the bottom of the main screen and choose with CTRL Left Klick the Icon Outlook.

Either take New Main Windows or New Event or New Message.
It will open another window. Problem solved!

Hi De Paul and thank you for your response.

I agree that your method opens mail & calendar on startup but it opens them both on the same screen (necessitating that I move the calendar to the laptop screen manually). It appears that the new interface doesn't do what I was used to: opening mail and calendar windows on the screens that they each occupied when closed down. If that functionality has been lost then it's a shame as I have found it to be most convenient.

Perhaps I might have to revert to the classic interface.

    Thanks again for your efforts.

    Cheers

    Ian

    Dear KiwiDem,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

I understand your concern and apologize for any inconvenience. With the new Outlook for Windows, you can still open separate Mail and Calendar windows, but it requires a few extra steps. I tried this on my end, and it worked even after restarting the PC, I reopened outlook and opened two windows: for Email and Calendar.

First, open Outlook and go to the View tab. Then, click on the "View Settings" button and select "General." In the General view list, click on "Start Up" and enable the "Always reopen previous items".

Once you have set up this view settings, Right click on the "Calendar" button and select "Open in New Window."

Now, whenever you want to open separate Mail and Calendar windows, each view will open in a separate window.

I hope the above information is helpful. Please feel free to let me know how it goes or if I got you wrong. If you still have any concerns, please let me know so I can provide more suggestions.
