Importing .pst email files into Microsoft 365

I have some Outlook files saved in a hard disk from the times I used to work on an installed version on a laptop. Nowadays I'm using Microsoft 365 apps on my laptop, and would like to use some of the emails I have in my hard disk. But I cannot find the way to import .pst files in this cloud version. Is there a way I can do it?

If you have a '365 Personal license, you can use Outlook to open / read any PST file.

Just download / install Office from the link provided in the previous response.

The first time you run Outlook, it will require you to configure an email account. If it doesn't do that, it means that Outlook has been previously used on this computer.

To open a PST file in Outlook that is not already in the Outlook profile, from within Outlook, go to

File --> Open & Export --> Open Outlook data file --> browse to the desired PST file and select it to add it to Outlook.

    Thanks Karl,

    very useful.

As you correctly figured out, I'm interested in having access to some mails I saved (from old jobs) on a hard disk. But I can't find a way to open such files, in the "Outlook (new)" app that is installed in my current laptop.

I think I do not have Outlook desktop installed (at least I cannot see it in the list of apps).

so the question would be if there's a way I can open and read those old emails I saved in my .pst files on a hard disk.

    Thanks again!

    Hello Ernesto G

Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today.

If you are using Microsoft 365 subscription and it is installed, you have access to the Office desktop apps which are not cloud based.

You cannot import a PST file using either the "new Outlook" or "Outlook on the web" (accessing an Outlook.com account using a browser.

Also, the question becomes, do you really want to import the PST file or just open it in Outlook to have access to the data?

If you have /365 installed, Outlook is accessed by clicking on the Outlook icon in the Windows Start menu.

    All email accounts are 'cloud'

What exact O365 licence are you using?

This is Outlook desktop and not web access?

If desktop have you turned on "New Outlook"?

Provided its no 'New Outlook' you copy any pst on the old sys to thumb drive, thence to My\Documents on the new PC (Not a location that syncs withOneDrive) then in MS Outlook > File > Open & Export > Open data file (any import will lose data & settings)
