Curious about what those have switched find preferable in the New Outlook application compared to the Classic version.

Thanks so much,

Dori

Dear Dori_S

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, you have concerns about the Outlook 2019 product that keeps prompting you to upgrade Outlook New.

In fact, Outlook New is not the same product as the Outlook 2019 product that you are using, Outlook New is actually Microsoft's replacement for the Windows Mail free application, which means that Outlook New is also a free product and has the same system logic as the web version of Outlook.

And the pros and cons of Outlook New over Outlook 2019 are as follows:

Pros:

User Interface Improvement:

The new version of Outlook has a more modern and intuitive user interface that makes it easier to navigate and use.

Performance Improvements:

The new version of Outlook offers significant improvements in speed and response time, especially when dealing with large volumes of emails and calendar events.

Integrated features:

The new version of Outlook better integrates with other Microsoft 365 applications, such as Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint, for more efficient collaboration.

Enhanced security:

The new version of Outlook offers enhanced security features, including better spam filtering and phishing protection.

New features:

The new version of Outlook introduces new features such as smarter search, email categorization and prioritization management, and more powerful calendaring.

Cross-platform consistency:

The new version of Outlook provides a more consistent experience across devices and platforms, with a similar user experience whether it's used on the desktop, mobile device or web version.

Disadvantages:

Feature differences:

Some features in Classic may not be fully implemented or may be different in the new version.1 For example, VBA macros and custom forms are not supported in the new version.

Compatibility issues:

If you are using some specific third-party add-ins or custom solutions, they may not be compatible with the new version of Outlook.

Overall, the new version of Outlook offers a better user experience and more features, but it is necessary to understand and adapt to the changes before switching.

Thanks Ron. Yes, I have no interest in a web based product. Thanks for your response!

I'm using Outlook 2016 classic/desktop app. There is no reason for me to switch to Outlook (new) app which is unfinished, full of bugs and inferior product. To me, Outlook (new) interface is no different that Outlook on a web browser.

There's absolutely no reason for me to use Outlook (new) unless Microsoft decides to block Outlook 2016 from connecting to their Exchange servers.
