How to sort Conversation by DATE of sent and received

Hi

I can't believe after all these years there is no way to sort the Conversations by dates of ALL their emails.

Maybe if there was some logic in the way it is sorted but all I see is a jumble that makes no sense.

For example I have one that has 23 emails, and the one I received today is smack in the middle of all of them. So you have to go blind looking through the mixed up dates.

But problem with that is, when you look at your inbox at the conversation, all the emails that have been moved to a folder have the name of the folder in the place where the 'Received' should be.

So you don't know which email came before the last one, unless you go the the folder.

Also why is there in View Settings, the option in Sort? I've done Conversation Ascending and Received Ascending but there is no difference if I put Received descending

I receive timesheets from people weekly, no matter how much I ask them to send me a new email every week, they still reply or forward their previous email with the new timesheet. Some change the subject names but that makes no difference, it still gets grouped with the previous email. When I then have to search for a particular timesheet from a person, there are hundreds of them all mixed up!!

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get the most recent email at the top no matter what?

    Dear JenDingbat

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, I know your consult. For this, to sort conversations by date in Outlook for Windows, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open Outlook and go to the folder that contains the conversation you want to sort.
    2. Click on the "View" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
    3. Click on the "View Settings" button.
    4. In the "Advanced View Settings" window, click on the "Sort" button.
    5. In the "Sort" window, select "Received" from the "Sort items by" dropdown menu.
    6. Select "Descending" from the "Order" dropdown menu.
    7. Click "OK" to close the "Sort" window.
    8. Click "OK" to close the "Advanced View Settings" window.

This should sort the conversation by the date of the most recent email at the top.

Hope this can help. If this cannot help. to better help you, please be kindly to provide me the outlook version you are using. I will continue to help you based on the information you provide. Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated.

Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day.

    Sincerely

    Katherine

OMG!!!! I can't believe it! I thought if you took away the sort by default which was 'Conversation Index', it would take away the conversation grouping. So I always added 'Received' in the second box.

I've posted this up a couple of years ago and a reply said you can't do anything about it and to post it to the Suggestion box.

I've also seen posts of people being told it can't be done.

But this really worked. I'm glad I persisted.

    Thank you so much!

    Dear Katherine,

Thank you for your solution. It was very helpful and it means a lot for my work.

    I have another issue.

Inside a single conversation, I tend to slightly change the subject (like an update). In '' Arrangement'' section inside ''View'' tab, I select ''Date(Conversation)'', but then I can't see the subject of every message inside a conversation.

Is there a way to keep the current arrangement and to be able to see all the subjects?

    Kind regards,

    Đorđe Branković
