OK for anyone still struggling with this issue. I spent some time on the phone with godaddy(email host) and a Samsung rep at best buy and finally got it working.

It appears to be an account issue with the phone. Another user went into phone settings-accounts and backup-manage accounts. From there they removed the account associated with the email account that is having problems. Then uninstall outlook, restart phone and install outlook then assign the account.

This didn't work for me as the account kept reappearing in the managed accounts area of the phone. So I performed a factory reset on the phone. Then instead of using smart sync to transfer data from the old phone, I went through the steps as if I was a new user. Once the phone was up and running I went to the play store and installed outlook. Next I was able to setup all my email accounts (2 Gmail, 4 Microsoft 365) in outlook without any errors.

Lastly ran smart sync on the new phone and the old and transferred my data (images, texts select programs etc) note i did not copy over any outlook settings as they were now working and didn't want to chance messing up any settings.

Hope this helps someone else. Factory reset stinks..but it's better than using a different email client in my opinion.

    Hi,

I recently help my friend who had the same issue on his new Samsung fold 6. When tried to setup the Office 365, we got the 5objp error straight away.

Note that Microsoft account has two types, the ‘School or Work’ account (using Azure Entra ID) and Personal account.

What makes it more confusing if you are not aware, both account types can use the same email address me@mydomain.whateva (there is a story about this), it depends on which Microsoft type when you created the email using Microsoft services.

When setting up the email for the first time, you should get the new Microsoft Sign In page where you enter the email. If you get prompted to choose ‘School or Work’ or Personal, you need to choose the correct type because they are different server and environment and you can tell from the icon.

The new Microsoft 365 (previously called Office 365) has a hexagon blue purple icon.

The Outlook icon is for Personal account.

In my friend’s case, he must selected the incorrect ‘Personal’, which supposedly the ‘Work’ one so it always got the error. We need to fixed this and aim to get the Sign In page again so we can choose the right type.

Clearing the Outlook Cache and Cache DB, uninstall and re install, it always failed as every time tried to create a new account, the previous email account always pre populated.

Finally, I found out the culprit, it was the Samsung account that keeping the info (this case the email account is the ‘Personal’).

If I can remember correctly, look in Settings - Accounts. In this section, there is another sub section that holds all the email accounts (for whatever apps that use email to authenticate). I deleted the incorrect email account then setup the email in Outlook, this time I got to choose the correct account.

Sorry for the long ‘history’ but hope help to make people aware of the confusing Microsoft types, and also hopefully the solutions help you too.

I have a user who has this same issue, he is able to sign in just fine on other devices but when going to add his email to this device he gets an "authentication failed, please try again". I have already ensured that he has the proper access in EAC, he has uninstalled/reinstalled the app and restarted the phone. Unsure of what next steps to take, please advise.

I have the same error. I received a replacement phone and can't log into an outlook email account that I have had for a long time. I can log in to this email account through a web browser.

I don't understand... My email works on my old phone and my pc - it just won't let me add to the new phone. It lets me input the email address then I choose work or school and the I get an error page.

The 2 work emails look like this and are working correctly

When I click add account - it automatically shows the email account I need BUT it shows it with the outlook icon instead of the 365 icon (that's odd since they are all from go daddy and end in @aufait.me - regardless of whether I click on it or try by unclicking I get the above error message.
